Dear Friend of Life,

The coronavirus has not spared Lutherans For Life.

One of our national staff contracted COVID-19. So did her family. They’ve all recovered, without serious complications or need for treatment, thanks be to the grace of God.

The same Gospel has sustained our ministry for forty-one years. Our Heavenly Father’s love for every life motivates our educating and acting. His gifts keep us going. And we count you among the best of our blessings.

Now we’re looking forward to your help and fellowship. As with many charitable organizations, the summer months always seem the leanest. This spring, with its unusual economic upheaval, our donations have slowed even more than normal. But our labors haven’t let up. If anything, the needs are increasing. We’ve had to postpone in-person engagements like everybody else, but our relationships and interactions—speaking truth, showing love, sharing life—continue.

We did not avail ourselves of any federal Paycheck Protection Program relief funds, even though we received approval to do so. A learned member of our Board of Directors says, “With state shekels come state shackles,” and we didn’t want government scrutiny or restrictions to compromise our Gospel-motivated message.

  • Phone calls and e-mail inquiries to our Word of Hope hotline have picked up. Deaconess Chrissie Gillet, our Word of Hope director, reports the conversations have concerned anxiety, depression, and abuse as well as post-abortion grief and guilt. (word-of-hope.org, 888.217.8679, info@word-of-hope.org)

  • We’re producing Life Moments, videos that express our Life Thoughts in the Church Year. Now visitors to our social media feeds can not only read but see and hear how each week’s lectionary readings tell us God holds every human life precious.

  • We’re also recording brief reflections called Life Matters. These minute-long videos address life-issue topics and trends in current events. We’ve posted over twenty to Facebook and Instagram for the LFL community to pass along and counter digital negativity with Christian joy and hope.

  • We’re hosting Thursday night Chats 4Life for our young people on Facebook. Y4Life Director Michelle Bauman has facilitated discussions about healthcare rationing, contraception, vaccines, gender dysphoria, suicide, and abortion with the For Life Generation. Over fifty high school and university students have participated.

  • We’re rolling out redesigned websites at y4life.org, word-of-hope.org, and lutheransforlife.org. They still connect the Gospel to people and the Word of God to life issues but they are simpler, brighter, more dynamic, and mobile-ready.

  • We’re compiling our Life Sunday 2021 congregational worship resources. 1 Corinthians 12:22 gives us our theme, From Invisible to Indispensable. By this fall, we’ll have bulletin inserts, an order of service, a Bible study guide, a children’s message, and seven model sermon manuscripts ready to download and reproduce.

  • We’re preparing our four regional conferences. From August to November and from Pittsburgh to Phoenix, expert presenters will tell their stories tackling abortion, embryo experiments, end-of-life, living with a disability, and speaking truth in love.

  • We’re hosting a podcast—an audio program listeners can access anytime. Three twenty-minute episodes have gone live, featuring discussions about suicide awareness and prevention, about chemical abortion and abortion pill reversal, and about vaccines and fetal tissue.

  • Even before the pandemic, many of our team were working from home. We’ve become accustomed to using digital technologies like e-mail, telephone, text messages, file-sharing, and videoconferences. This allows us to efficiently stretch our reach—and our resources, and your voices—across the country. And the twelve of us multiply ourselves with volunteers in all fifty states to put the sanctity of life into practice for over 200,000 individuals every year!

They’re waiting for your help:

  • Pandemic anxieties are causing some to contemplate aborting their children.

  • Healthcare authorities have suggested denying care and support to elderly patients due to their supposed “inferior quality of life.”

  • Pharmaceutical manufacturers are developing COVID-19 vaccines using the bodies of aborted babies.

You can make a difference. Lutherans For Life is still changing hearts. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is still saving lives.
