While checking on projects in Ghana I was touched as I walked with Mahamad, a school teacher and mother. She spoke to me of her life while we walked in the intense heat along a dusty trail to the pond where she collected water before the installation of a borehole at the school where she teaches. I asked if I could record her as we spoke. She said “I am so so grateful for the borehole. Before the borehole, I was always late for school because of water issues, even though I am the teacher. I would have to go so far for water and get my water from the same place where the animals were getting water. We are so grateful for the borehole. We are going to take care of it and make sure it works forever. Before the borehole, we were often sick and now we don’t have those same problems.”
