You Don't Know the Whole Story
Leadership Oakland Executive Director, Nancy Maurer, with Clarence Dass, LOXXVII Class President, in September 2017

As I scrolled through my Facebook feed during a rare moment of free time at the Kick-Off Retreat for LOXXIX, my finger stopped suddenly and scrolled back, “Why was there a picture of Clarence Dass, LOXXVII class president, in a hospital gown?”

Tears of sadness filled my eyes as Clarence shared his story of being diagnosed with advanced colon cancer at the age of 31! They turned to relief as he relayed the news of his remission. Then the questions flooded my mind, “What?! When?! How?!”
