Hello,

On October 18th at 6:30p You're Invited to Attend Living a Tax-Free Retirement workshop at USC Upstate. Click here to register.

This Sunday we will have our baby dedication for our 6-month-old daughter, Ansley, at church. To prepare, this past weekend we attended a class that went over logistics for the day and also discussed the finer points of what a dedication means.

The class discussed the importance of creating a strong spiritual foundation for our baby so that as she grows she will have the tools to weather the inevitable storms of life through trusting in God. Ansley pictured below.
Our pastor leading the class read Matthew 7:24-27 about the wise man that builds his house on a firm foundation, where wind and rain cannot destroy what has been built.

The pastor then told us about homeowners Warren and Pam Adams in Gilchrist, Texas. After losing a home to hurricane damage previously, they decided to rebuild and create a house meant to survive a category 5 storm.

Their house was put to the test just a year later when Hurricane Ike came through and devastated the area. The picture below speaks for itself. Their home was the only thing left standing.
It’s easy to have hurricanes on the mind recently, what with the devastation Hurricane Ian has left throughout Florida and up the coast here in South Carolina. Maybe you received some difficult weather as a result this past week too.

I don’t know about you, but I am a person that likes to be prepared, and whenever there is the threat of a hurricane or other dangerous weather conditions it always sends me to my mental checklist of what we may need to get through the storm.

If the amount of people in Costco is any indicator, I’m not alone in this sentiment! Amelia our 4-year-old is pictured below at Costco helping Santa know what to put on his sleigh.
If you follow the market on a regular basis, you may feel much like we did last week waiting to see what category of storm would materialize.

Maybe you have the same question that many in the path of the hurricane had: should we stay and ride out the storm? Maybe you have even had an advisor give you that advice about the market.

Staying with little planning may work when we are young and in an accumulation phase, but when we are in retirement or approaching retirement, we may need another approach to protect our portfolio. Ansley playing with her big sister Amelia in a cardboard box.

Like the Adam’s home in Texas, we want our clients to be able to know what they have worked hard for will still be standing, despite the dips and dives of the market.

We do this by creating all-weather plans for our clients. To learn more about our approach or to schedule a time to discuss your unique situation call our office at 864.641.7955 or reply to this email.

Until next week,

David C. Treece,
Financial Advisor

PS: We're having a client Christmas party on the evening of November 29th. Please save the date!
