You MAY Want to Hear What's New!
I would like to thank you for all the support you have continued to show as I prepare to win Monterey County Supervisor this November. I encourage you to stay tuned as things begin to move forward. Please feel free to forward these newsletter updates to friends and family or share on your social media.

So far the month of May has been encouraging as the availability of testing for all residents has become more readily available and we gear up to begin re-opening some local businesses. Flexibility and modifications have been implemented to help us open back up safely around Monterey County, including at McShane's Landscape Supply. I am excited to have re-opened the doors last week and grateful to have my awesome employees back at work again!

In this newsletter, I will highlight how we are continuing to support local businesses, Covid-19 testing, the 2020 Census, an update on our local warming shelter, and an up close look at what your elected leaders are doing under the current status of Covid-19.

Stay safe. Stay well.

-Steve

The Salinas-Monterey County Public Homeless Warming Shelter
Last week I visited the shelter on West Alisal Street, which is under strict COVID-19 protection. The temporary facility services approximately 65 people including mostly families & women. Showers were added last week as well. The state supplied COVID-19 isolation trailers that are being hooked up for use. They currently are in desperate need of diapers, sanitizer & wipes.

111 West Alisal Street. Donations can be dropped off with a ring of the doorbell. You can also contact the shelter manager- Jesse Armenta at (831)-578-0019
Covid-19 Testing in Greenfield
This week I was tested for COVID-19 in Greenfield, CA at one of the (80) state supported locations. The process took (10) minutes & there was no wait. The test was due to community exposure & concern over earlier experienced symptoms. There appears to be a lot of testing capacity at this location. You can register at  www.lhi.care/covidtesting . I wanted to share my experience here.
Small Business Support During COVID-19
As one of the few small business owners/elected leaders in our community, I decided to report on both the City of Salinas business community response and my own actions as a business owner. Click here to read more in the Salinas Valley Chamber article.
Small Business Support this Month!
Supporting small business one meal, sign or shirt at a time. So far this month I have been happy to support Central Coast Sign & Design, 831 for Men and take-out from Golden Fish in Downtown Salinas.

A special *shout out* to Julio Gil & Central Coast Sign & Design for helping McShane's Landscape get open last week with an awesome new sign!

I would also like to give a shout out to local / Downtown Salinas business - 831 For Men. I was able to order easily online and they offer free local delivery.
Check out  www.831formen.com .

I am so proud to support small & local businesses now more than ever. A community that works together can handle anything. Please remember your small businesses during all of this.
Facing COVID-19 Today & Tomorrow- Zoom Calls with our Elected Leaders
COVID-19 Zoom Call with Salinas Mayor Joe Gunter
It is important to hear from your elected leaders. Last week I spent about (30) minutes with Salinas Mayor Joe Gunter on the "State of Salinas facing Covid-19". We are doing our best to re-open safely.

COVID-19 Zoom Call with Congressman Jimmy Panetta
Last week I also had a Zoom call with Congressman Jimmy Panetta to discuss how things are going as it pertains to Covid-19, small business, and health.

2020 Census
Efforts are underway right now to make a final attempt at hearing from every resident. The Census is about fair representation, redistricting, and federal dollars will go to local communities based on census numbers. Please do your part to be counted at  www.census.gov
