With the support of our community, Kitsap Humane Society celebrated another year of serving as more than a shelter and putting compassion into action for people and pets in need!
In 2022, we:
- Rehomed 3,411 animals, including reuniting 522 lost pets with their loving owners.
- Rescued 575 at-risk pets from overcrowded and high-volume shelters around the country.
-
Spayed and neutered 4,000 pets, including 1,519 of those being part of our low-cost spay/neuter program. And provided an additional 320 other surgeries, including low-cost emergency services and rabbit spay/neuters.
- Were supported by 315 active volunteers who donated over 20,000 total hours of their time to helping the pets and people of KHS.
- Broke ground on the Russ & Linda Young Veterinary Lifesaving Center, set to be opened in Fall 2023.
- Checked in 296 stray and owner-surrendered pets out in the community thanks to our small but mighty crew of Animal Control Officers, including 143 animals who were brought in by our officers while assisting emergency and law enforcement services. In total, our Animal Control team checked in 439 animals in need of assistance.
- Provided compassionate foster homes to 2,583 pets.
- Were uplifted by 2,930 individual supporters who together gave more than $1,006,350 to support our lifesaving work - not including the countless donations of wishlist items and shelter supplies, and vehicle donations, as well as generous sponsorships and grants.
On behalf of the thousands of pets and people we've helped because of animal-loving supporters and advocates like you, thank you. We are excited to start off our 115th year on the right paw!

Adorable Adoptable
Meet Dolan!
|
Meet Dolan! This 5-year-old pittie/lab mix is looking for an adopter that will help him out with a little TLC. Dolan is a very sweet dog that loves nothing more than to cuddle up in a blanket for a nice quiet nap. And while Dolan enjoys lots of dog things like tennis balls and booty scratches, he will require extra care and attention to his skin to keep him as happy and healthy as possible! This good boy sits so well for his much needed baths. Dolan can't wait to show you how much love he has to give.
Do you want to bring Dolan home but need some time to decide on adopting? Give this sweetheart a trial run through our Foster to Adopt program!

Volunteer Spotlight
Meet Stephanie!
|
Stephanie (Steph) joined the KHS foster team in August 2022 (the height of kitten season!) and wasted no time tagging in to help wherever needed. When asked why she started fostering, Steph said, "I’ve always loved animals. Since I was a little girl, I knew I wanted to work with animals in some way. So it seemed right that I become a foster."
Within a few short months, Steph has already played a key role in so many animals' lives - frequently tagging into foster bottle baby kittens overnight or long-term, helping kittens through difficult medical situations, and so much more. Fostering isn't always easy but Steph finds ways to stay motivated, "What keeps me motivated as a foster is just loving these little ones as my own. Each foster is different with different needs. When they've grown and graduated from being a foster, it’s always bittersweet. It’s a wonderful feeling to know that they find their forever homes and makes it all worth it."
|
|
Steph is a wonderful foster parent and person, she's always smiling, positive, and willing to go the extra mile for her foster animals. We feel so fortunate to have her on the team.
