You want answers. You want to flip to the last page and know how the story of our life, a situation, or a goal ends. This is normal for progressive people though with that comes expectations, judgment and other things that impede your progress. The art of being mindful is to live in the moment without projecting into the future. Gratitude will help you to do that. So will curiosity and compassion. How can you be curious? How can you be compassionate to yourself and others during this "Meanwhile" time where you are discovering?

The skill of living in the moment is one that will serve you throughout your life. You will shed anxiety in the future by practicing now how to live in the moment now. Anxiety is practicing failure in advance. It is healthy to set goals. Do that. But allow the fine-tuned perception of the specifics of the outcome to come in its own form - not yours. When we try to control the outcome we miss the magic of the moment. So you may set a goal of being in a position that fulfills you and dovetails with your values.  Some people have more defined specifics to their goal of what will work for them. If you aren't sure right now that is ok. You will become more sure as you allow in vulnerability. It scares you not to know your future. Don't hide from that. Say to yourself, "I am scared. And it is ok." NO judgment!!! It is ok. This way you need not run from being scared.

Mindfulness is accepting what is - living in the moment without judgment. One mindful exercise has you examine something as mundane as a raison - all of its crevices, its shape, its smell and then its taste over a period of 20 minutes. Boring? Only if you can't settle your mind. The goal is to slow down and experience the moment. As you continue to experience the moment you will shed the anxiety.

The Slow Down Exercise:

1. Where can you spend 10 peaceful minutes? Sit still for 3 minutes without fidgeting. Can you notice what is going on around you without allowing any stream of thought to invade the moment?

2. Settle the mind. Start to breath in and out with only the words "inhale" and "exhale" entering you mind for 5 minutes.

3. Start to notice where peace centers in your body. How does it feel? What do you notice that you had missed before? How does it feel to not be dogged by anxiety and interrupting thoughts?

You have a lot to give the world. If you aren't sure how, listen to the silence.
