Among the earliest highway removal projects in the United States, Downtown Crossing New Haven has reached as significant milestone: the opening of the Orange Street intersection.
This occasion marks a reclamation of New Haven streets--with bike and pedestrian infrastructure and, for the first time in approximately 60 years, the reconnection of the Hill neighborhood to Downtown New Haven! The reconnection of Orange Street also features Connecticut's first protected intersection for bicyclists and pedestrians.
Please join Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro, Mayor Elicker, Alder Carmen Rodriguez and other local, state, and federal officials and residents for the ceremonial "First Crossing" of Orange Street for bicyclists and pedestrians!
The event will occur on Wednesday, June 27, 2022 at 9:30 AM at the intersection of Orange Street and Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.
Bikes are welcomed--and encouraged! We hope to see you there. Click immediately below for event details.
