DCCA Co-Hosts Candidate Forum
|
|
The Dupont Circle Citizens Association (DCCA) worked together with our friends at the Logan Circle Community Association (LCCA) to co-host a Candidate Forum so that residents could hear from all nine of the candidates running for the recently opened Ward 2 Council seat.
DC political reporter Tom Sherwood and WAMU's Kojo Nnamdi moderated the forum which was held at the Foundry Church.
The crowd filled the church sanctuary and was often vocal in reaction to a lively and informative presentation of the candidates' viewpoints.
We will continue to compile coverage and news analysis of the event, click

for news updates.
We hope to have a recording of the forum available on our website sometime next week.
Remember, membership has its privileges -- DCCA members were given early access to this sold out event. To join or renew your membership click

DCCA Action on 16th Street Parking Restriction
|
|
In February, DCCA Transportation Committee Chair, Susan Volman, submitted testimony to the DC Council’s Committee on Transportation on behalf of the DCCA, seeking reconsideration of the proposed parking restriction in the non-peak, northbound direction of 16th Street between O and U Streets during the morning rush hour.
The letter asks the Council Committee, in their oversight role, to direct DDOT to provide data on transit time savings for this proposed parking change, and to reconsider it, if it is not justified to improve bus transit on 16th Street.

Get Involved in Grassroots Democracy and Help Your Neighbors: Consider Becoming an ANC Commissioner!
|
|
Your Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC)
provides people with a greater say in the matters that affect their neighborhoods, to bring government closer to the people and to bring the people closer to government. ANCs are a unique feature of the District's Home Rule Charter since 1976.
Dupont Circle is represented by ANC2B with nine Commissioners. Each Commissioner has a Single Member District (SMD) and represents about 2,000 residents. Corcoran Street NW neighbor Susan Meehan served on the first Dupont Circle ANC. The Ward 2 ANC map can be viewed
here
.
Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners
are non-partisan, serve two-year terms without pay and are elected at DC Elections in November in even-numbered years.
The ANCs' main job is to be their neighborhood's official voice in advising the District government (and Federal agencies) on things that affect their neighborhoods. Although not required to follow the ANCs' advice, District agencies are required to give the ANCs' recommendations
"great weight"
on certain issues.
Moreover, District law says that agencies cannot take any action that will significantly affect a neighborhood unless they
give the affected ANCs 30 days advance notice
. This
includes zoning, streets, recreation, education, social services, sanitation, planning, safety, budget, and health services.
The ANCs may also
initiate recommendations for improving city services, conduct neighborhood improvement programs, and monitor resident complaints.
Qualifications:
You must be a registered voter in the District of Columbia and lived in your Single Member District (SMD) for 60 days prior to Election Day. Twenty-five (25) signature
General Election Timeline:
First day to pick up nominating petitions (ANC) June 26,2020
Last day to file petitions August 5, 2020
Tuesday, November 3, 2020 - General Election Day
