Well, that was a lot of fun -- with over 1,000 finishers on the night, it looks like we're finally getting back to a bit of normalcy with in-person running events. Thank you for being part of Tucson's biggest event!
Below are all-sorts of post-race details, but first a couple of items:
1) Results and Awards: Check here for race results. If you earned an age-group award that you have not received, gift cards will be at The Running Shop until the end of June, so swing by 3055 North Campbell to pick up your award before the end of the month. Thanks to Greg Wenneborg at Roadrunner Race Timing for managing all the timing. If you spot a mistake, email us and we'll get it taken care of.
For social media, please tag @runtucson and @runsar and @rrca with any instagram posts -- you can use hashtags #meetmedown5k or #tmcmeetmedowntown or #gabezimmermantriplecrown or anything else you want . . .
3) Goodie Pickup: Sorry to say, but the event sold out of the white TMC Night Run shirts. However, Triple Crown participants can get their GZTC shirt and the GZTC medal at the Running Shop at 3055 North Campbell Avenue during regular business hours. We are running out of sizes, so please remember, it's first-come, first-served. If they do not have the size or shirt you want, please do not get mad at the Running Shop staff -- feel free to email me any grouchiness.
4) Registering for the Gabe Zimmerman Triple Crown. We have sold out of the Triple Crown shirts, but we have lots of medals left. If you want to sign up for the remaining two races of the Triple Crown (September 19th TMC Tucson 10k/5k at Pima West and October 23rd TMC Biosphere 15 or 5k at the Biosphere 2), please email us for a coupon code.
5) Southern Arizona Roadrunners: TMC Meet Me Downtown is a Run Tucson event partnered with our friends at the Southern Arizona Roadrunners, one of the premier non-profit running clubs in the nation. SAR is a member-driven organization, dependent on community support and volunteers. If you're interested in engaging more with SAR, please see runsar.org -- you can also email us and we'll get you hooked up with SAR leadership.
OK -- below are all sorts of post-race topics. As a special prize for reading everything, way below is a coupon code for $10 off our November 5th Trail Half Marathon at the Grand Canyon.

Defending champion Harry Mulenga unleashed a devastating kick, not once but twice, to take home the double victory at the 16th Annual TMC Meet Me Downtown 5k Night Run and Festival of Miles on Saturday night, June 4th. Mulenga, 28, who had sprinted to victory in the Open Mile moments earlier, bided his time throughout the flat Sixth Avenue-area course, then surged to the Armory Park finish line one second ahead of early race leader Raymond Langlais.
In the women's 5k race, The Workout Group's Caroline Mosely easily ran away from the competition to finish in 18:52, continuing her stellar racing season.
Marathoner and former college hurdler, Katie Keating from the Workout Group displayed her range, winning the Women's Mile in 5:45.
In the inaugural High School Mile, Salpointe's Aric Accetta won the boy's race, while Gizelle Paredes running unattached won the Girl's Mile.
In the SAR FitKidz Mile, Chase Woodall was first to the finish line, with Ellie Thomas-Hillburn the first girl.
Teams: Four professional runners from Flagstaff'/Phoenix's Team Bazooka took home the team victory. Congratulations to the well-represented Vail Church of God for having the most participants. Team Results can be found here.
A note on timing: The cash awards were based on so-called "gun-time," when the starter's pistol was fired and the race began. Age-group awards were based on so-called "chip-time," which is the elapsed time from when the athlete crosses the starting line to when they crossed the finish line. This method has become the norm in community races around the nation -- and even more so given wave starts caused by public health concerns. Special thanks to Greg and Grant Wenneborg.

SAR's Running Shop Grand Prix and FitKidz: Check out updates at www.runsar.org on the 2022 Running Shop Grand Prix. Thanks to Jeri Baker and all the volunteers from the Southern Arizona Roadrunners for managing the FitKidz race
Cox Communications: Thanks to Cox for providing the jumping castle and helping fund the donations raised for our charities.
AMR, Barricades, TPD and more: Special thanks to ACE Portables for providing portojohns. Our previous portojohn company had tripled their prices and the local company ACE came in with a great price and great service. Desert Barricades provided the road closure barricades, while AMR provided ambulance support and TPD officers managed course safety.
Skratch Labs, Natural Grocers, and RSL: Thanks for the drinks and snacks from Sam at Skratch Labs, the crew from Natural Grocers, and all the soccer players from the '08 and '06 RSL teams -- and special thanks to all of you for providing over $500 in additional donations to the RSL players!
Food Trucks and Beverages: Thanks to Hensley Beverages and Moto Sonora Brewing for the cold drinks in the Beer Garden. We hope you enjoyed the food truck roundup with local vendors.
Music: Thanks to long-time friend of the running community, DJ Rich, for, well, dj'ing.
Gift Horse: This was our first race with local band, Gift Horse. Judging by all the happy faces and dancing, they seemed to hit the right chords.
Teams: Thanks to the 41 teams that signed up!

The above photo is of our last official finisher, Ellie Burgess, from the Achilles Track Club, guided by a very happy but anonymous Achilles Volunteer. Congratulations to all the dedicated runners and guides from the Achilles Track Club.
Thanks to everyone who helped produce this event. I'm sure there's more, and I'm sorry for an incomplete list, but here's a start:
-
TMC's Tim Bentley: former SAR President, Tim Bentley spent the night announcing finishers and cheering folks on, announcing the awards, and helping make sure everything stayed on track.
-
SAR Board members Caroline Gardiner, Mohammed Al-Sammak, Lauren Erdelyi, Dave Dixon, and Jeri Baker
-
SDMB volunteers for taking over the beer garden
-
Educational Enrichment Foundation volunteers for handing out water on the course
-
Greater Tucson Leadership for handing out water at the finish line
-
Thanks to the crew at The Children's Museum for providing their courtyard and activities for all the children who attended
-
As always, members of the Workout Group came out in force to help set up and clean up and manage all the areas where we needed help!
-
The crew from the Downtown Tucson Partnership, who managed all race cleanup.

As the first leg of the 2022 Gabe Zimmerman Triple Crown honoring the slain civil servant, Gabe Zimmerman, the event expects to raise over $12,000 for local organizations.
Supported by funding from Tucson Medical Center, Cox Communications, and participants, the events provide funding for the following organizations:
BEYOND Tucson Foundation: Following the tragic shooting on the morning of January 8, 2011 in Tucson, Arizona at Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords’ “Congress On Your Corner,” the Southern Arizona community spontaneously came together to honor, remember, and show solidarity for those that were killed, injured, or traumatized by the event. Along with its partners, BEYOND provides year-round opportunities for the public to participate in a series of healthy activities and to learn more about the scientific research that shows methods for optimal physical and mental health.
Cox Charities is the fundraising and grantmaking arm of Cox Communications raising funds for local charities.
Educational Enrichment Foundation actively provides enhanced and enriched learning resources for TUSD students, teachers, and schools, advocates for educational excellence for all children, and ensures access to educational enrichment opportunities within TUSD for financially in-need students.
Greater Tucson Leadership is a non-profit, non-partisan leadership organization dedicated to providing leadership education, community development and civic engagement for the overall care of and commitment to our Tucson community.
Southern Arizona Roadrunners is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting health and fitness in Tucson and Southern Arizona through running and walking.
