Congratulations! The 2023 TMC Tucson 10k is in the books -- over 900 of you registered for the 10k or 5k this past weekend.
We'll post updated news at www.runtucson.net, but below is the first draft race report. As a special prize for reading everything, way below are coupon codes for two of our upcoming races...
Thank you: It was great to see so many happy, smiling faces -- thank you all for being part of our awesome running community here in Southern Arizona. I also want to thank you for being so good-hearted about the portojohn issues -- special thanks, too, to Pima Community College for opening Building N for us!!!
Photos: Thanks to John Harris and Long Realty's Damion Alexander for race photos and video. Once all the photos are available, we'll send another email with links to more photos.
Speaking of results, congratulations to Green Valley's Art Clark for being the final finisher of the day, showing determination and grit all the way through!
Goodie Pickup: We hope you liked the race shirt and race medals. If you haven't yet picked up your shirt and race medal, come to The Running Shop through the end of September and snag your shirt on a first-come, first-served basis, at 3055 North Campbell during regular business hours.
Running Groups: We've updated our recent postings of local community groups to include more running, orienteering, triathlons, hiking, and biking groups and organizers. Check it out here. Check out the SAR race calendar here.
OK -- below are all sorts of post-race topics -- we'll send a follow-up with photo links.

TMC Tucson 10k: Coming down from Flagstaff, first place finisher Skip Carmichael cruised to an easy win in a time of 33:51. Second place went to Raul Del Bosque, continuing his recent string of top finishes in local races. Jose Delgado finished in 35:46, first place in the 40+ division, 20 seconds ahead of master's runner Orlando Velasquez.
The women's race saw the "Workout Group Northwest" training partners with a clean sweep: Whitney Penney took top honors in 37:18, followed to the tape by Jori Galles in 37:35. Nicole Pearce snagged third for the women, while top master's female was Carrie Weldy from Phoenix. (Thanks to Carrie and Pete for doing so many Tucson races!)
We at Run Tucson are committed to honoring the spirit of racing, and we're grateful to TMC for helping us provide prize money and to The Running Shop for providing close to $1,000 in age-group gift cards.

A note on timing: Thanks to Greg Wenneborg at Roadrunner Race Timing -- Greg also posts videos of every finish, so follow the link to watch your finish video. You're welcome to screenshot the image as you wish!
The cash awards were based on so-called "gun-time," when the starter's pistol was fired and the race began. Age-group awards were based on so-called "chip-time," which is the elapsed time from when the athlete crosses the starting line to when they crossed the finish line. Special thanks to Greg Wenneborg from Roadrunner Race Timing.

As the second leg of the 2023 Gabe Zimmerman Triple Crown honoring the slain civil servant, Gabe Zimmerman, the event expects to raise over $12,000 for local organizations.
Special thanks to Ross Zimmerman and the Zimmerman family for allowing us to honor Gabe through these events. Supported by funding from Tucson Medical Center, Cox Communications, and participants, the events provide funding for the following organizations:
BEYOND Tucson Foundation: Following the tragic shooting on the morning of January 8, 2011 in Tucson, Arizona at Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords’ “Congress On Your Corner,” the Southern Arizona community spontaneously came together to honor, remember, and show solidarity for those that were killed, injured, or traumatized by the event. Along with its partners, BEYOND provides year-round opportunities for the public to participate in a series of healthy activities and to learn more about the scientific research that shows methods for optimal physical and mental health.
Step up For Justice: Step Up to Justice is an award winning, full-service, free civil legal center for low-income individuals and families in Pima County, powered by the talents of volunteer attorneys.
Cox Charities is the fundraising and grantmaking arm of Cox Communications raising funds for local charities.
Educational Enrichment Foundation actively provides enhanced and enriched learning resources for TUSD students, teachers, and schools, advocates for educational excellence for all children, and ensures access to educational enrichment opportunities within TUSD for financially in-need students.
Greater Tucson Leadership is a non-profit, non-partisan leadership organization dedicated to providing leadership education, community development and civic engagement for the overall care of and commitment to our Tucson community.
Southern Arizona Roadrunners is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting health and fitness in Tucson and Southern Arizona through running and walking.
