Art with a Heart in Healthcare
provides personalized fine art experiences that enhance the healing process for patients and their families.
We are thrilled to announce that we are back in Wolfson Children's Hospital (WCH) and Mayo Clinic Cancer Center at St. Vincent's Riverside (MCSV).
Our Artists-in-Residence (AIR) are back to transforming patient hospital rooms into art studios and providing group art and music sessions to pediatric and adult patients in Behavioral Health at WCH. Additionally, AIR Lisa is reunited with patients at MCSV making art with and for them.
We are working hard to ensure our personalized fine art sessions are as safe as possible!

A decade of pARTnership with MOCA
In September, we celebrated a decade of patient art exhibitions at MOCA! Over the years, AWAHIH has empowered pediatric patients at WCH by assisting them in the creation of artwork that thoughtfully responds to the show's prompt and that reflects each patients unique characteristics and personal expression.
During our virtual opening reception, we were joined by three patients who participated in previous shows. Their works of art were displayed once again in this year's special decade exhibition.
One participant, Robin, an avid artist and Graphic Design student, described her difficult experience during hospitalization and how AWAHIH helps her and others like her through tough times as a patient:
"I feel like artwork gives people a platform to express themselves. Because in a lot of ways, patients don't have the opportunity to show themselves, what they want to do, or what they feel in the moment. Art in healthcare gives you the feeling that you're not just a patient, but you're this important person."

Another year with Wolfson Children's Hospital
Can you believe we are coming up on our 20th year of partnership with Wolfson Children’s Hospital?
Over the years, the partnership between WCH and AWAHIH has grown and flourished into a multi-faceted collaboration. From bedside art sessions to Media Center art shows; the versatility of fine art experiences provided to patients, their families, and staff by AWAHIH continues evolving to fit the needs of our WCH community.
We look forward to seeing the future potential of this partnership!

“For children in the hospital, art is so much more than a fun activity. It provides distraction from pain, helps them express themselves during a stressful time, and is part of their healing process. Art with a Heart in Healthcare’s professional artists share their creative gifts six days a week with Wolfson Children’s Hospital patients, in every setting, from the medical/surgical floors to our child and adolescent behavioral health unit, at the bedside and in our playrooms. Art with a Heart is an essential member of our Wolfson Children’s Hospital caregiving team.”

Festive fall art tutorial for WCH patients
This month, AWAHIH provided a fine art session for all WCH patients. Each patient received a bag filled with precut paper leaves, crayons, and paper. Then, AIR Jill led patients through a leaf rubbing art tutorial. The tutorial was filmed in the Media Center and played on the patients' TVs across the hospital so that they could follow along from the comfort of their own rooms.
It was a wonderful way to boost morale in the hospital on Halloween!

Board member spotlight: Bonnie Hayflick
Meet Bonnie Hayflick, a beloved member of our Board of Directors. Bonnie generously shares her professional skills and talents in public and media relations with AWAHIH. Thanks to Bonnie, AWAHIH has been featured in several news articles and made TV news appearances, helping to gain public awareness and support for our organization. Bonnie reflects on the moment when she first learned about AWAHIH's mission and saw our organization in action providing patients with fine art experiences at WCH and says she was "immediately dedicated to helping the cause." We are so grateful she has chosen to devote her time and efforts to earn AWAHIH increased exposure in the media and is helping us build relationships with members of our community.
