November 2017 eNewsletter
The Diversity Council is proud to announce the inaugural GRACE Week taking place this week!

This council was established in 2016 to help strengthen the diverse culture of ELCA and we're excited for the events of the week!

GRACE is an acronym that describes the focus on diversity at ELCA (Gender, Race, Age & Ability, Culture, and Economic Ability).

What to expect
  • Country flags - showing the nationalities of our international students and countries of ELCA's international outreach trips for students to serve in missions work
  • World map - sharing the cultural pride of our ELCA families, students, and staff/faculty
  • Guest speaker - Algernon Tennyson is speaking with high school students today and sharing how our identity is first and foremost found in God, and then our culture
  • Special morning announcements
  • And more!

More details
  • There's still time to place a pin on our GRACE Week World Map. In honor of the inaugural GRACE Diversity Week, we want to know where our families come from. We love celebrating the many nationalities of our ELCA community!
  • Students - Please place a pin where you were born. If your parents were born in a different country, place a pin where they were born (For instance, if your parents were born in Cairo, Egypt place a pin on Cairo, Egypt).
  • Parents / Guardians - Please place a pin where you were born.

  • Visit our page on ELCA's website: http://www.elcaonline.org/diversity
  • Share Your Story
  • Our ELCA community is filled with unique, untold stories. For our inaugural GRACE Diversity Week, we want to hear your story of your cultural heritage and identity. Please use the form athttp://www.elcaonline.org/diversity to share more about your family, in 100 words or less.
  • Cultural stereotypes – Things People Say
  • Stereotyping is the portrayal of people or places through a few obvious characteristics. We want to shed light on the stereotypes that affect our ELCA community on a daily basis, whether we deal with gender, cultural, racial, generational, or economic stereotypes. Please use the form at http://www.elcaonline.org/diversity to share negative or positive stereotypes that people may have expressed to you.

We are pleased to host the events of the week and to celebrate the diversity of our ELCA family!
It's the MOST WONDERFUL time of the year!

ELCA Athletics ⚡️
GHSA State Football Semifinals
Join us this Friday, December 1 as we cheer on the Chargers Varsity football team as they play Prince Avenue in the Semifinal Round of the GHSA State Playoffs. Our Mighty Chargers Marching Band will be performing on the field at half time. Kickoff will be at 7:30 and gate will open at 5:30.

All GHSA Passes and all other fans will enter the General Admission Gate located at the Ticket Booth behind the Adult Life Center building. Admission is $15.00 per person for everyone. The GHSA requires that all students, fans, and Booster/TD Club members purchase tickets during the state playoffs. No one will be able to enter the stadium without a ticket.
* There will also be no re-entry in to the stadium!

* Pre-sale student tickets ($13) and adult tickets ($15) will be available thru Friday morning at 11am. Students may purchase one (1) ticket at this discounted price; adults may purchase as many tickets as they need at the regular ticket price.
LOOKING AHEAD
If the ELCA varsity football team wins Friday night's state semifinal game here against Prince Avenue, we will compete for the State Championship on Friday, December 8, at 10:00 A.M. at the  Mercedes-Benz Stadium  in Atlanta!
This game time is set by the Georgia High School Association and we have no control over it. Because so many of our students and their families are involved in football, band, and cheerleading and because so many fellow students and members of our staff are supporters of them all,  we plan to close the school on December 8 if we are playing in the State Championship .

It is our intent to give you adequate time to make arrangements for your child in the event that we continue on to compete at the State Championship. However, if Friday's game (December 1st) results in a loss, school will take place as usual on December 8.
