How you've helped your neighbors in need on their road to self-sufficiency.
Helping relieve hunger

We recently met Doug,* a retired Army Veteran, outside our building. After a moment of conversation, Doug explained that due to overcrowding he was unable to secure a spot in one of our local homeless shelters the day before and was unsure of what he was going to do for the upcoming week. When asked about his potential plans, he mentioned that a friend of his who frequents our Food Pantry and he were teaming up for now and working together they would ‘manage.’

That day we were able to help Doug and his friend by providing food to relieve their immediate need of being hungry. Doug has seen better days but through his raspy voice one can still hear a hint of optimism and hope for an improved situation.

Because of your support we are able to help address immediate needs, such as hunger, as well as with longer term solutions to help clients reach self-sufficiency.

You can teach your kids about giving back with a holiday giving basket

Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or any other tradition, this is typically the season of giving. And it’s also a great time to teach children about giving back.

We’d like to suggest creating a giving basket (or box) and putting a non-perishable food item or a toiletry item in it for those less fortunate every day of your holiday celebration. An Advent basket could collect 24 items, a Hanukkah basket could collect 8 items, a Kwanzaa basket could collect 7 items, and so on.
