Hello!
I recently decided to have new headshots taken. I made the appointment, then instantly had second thoughts. I like to be the one taking the photos, not necessarily the subject of them. The thought of having this exclusive attention directed at me made me nervous. But there I was, toting multiple outfits into Connecticut Headshots, where photographer Seshu Badrinath patiently coached me through the process.
The experience turned out to be a valuable one. I got lovely photos, and it also got me thinking about what it means to be seen. We all have something to share with the world. We want others to see it, appreciate it and connect with it. And yet, being seen can make us feel vulnerable. It's easier to hide behind the camera, behind our work, or behind the thought that maybe what we have to offer isn't enough.
Writing has always been the way I've put myself out into the world. It's a form of being seen that feels comfortable to me. I’m so happy to be able to share that gift with others through poemRENOVATION.
This month, we're shining a spotlight on the many ways creativity helps us connect, express ourselves and be seen, from back-to-school creativity boosters, to women finding joy in gathering, from Memory Café participants sharing their creativity, to a family using words to honor a loved one.
Read on for creative inspiration.
I see you!
