Ever "get" grounded growing up? It was the worst especially when it came at the same time of a big event or a potential date. Just knowing you wouldn't be able to join in or move about freely was punishment for sure.
"Being" grounded is a little bit different. It's not something imposed on you but a choice you're making on your own. That is unless of course you're a pilot and then maybe it is being done to you and maybe it's even a good thing? (no offense to my pilot friends/family)
There's a few more examples of the word I could use but where we're looking today is that place of knowing who you are, knowing what you believe in and knowing whose you are. That's firm grounding. When you have those questions answered you tend to look at life from a different perspective. You respond differently. You even
breathe a little differently.
We live in a time where fear and intimidation have become almost commonplace at every turn. They exist globally, within our governments, within our neighborhoods, within companies and even within our own families. Fear is driving even how we breathe. Coercion is the weapon of choice. If you're not grounded how long can you last? If you are grounded what does that look like? For a man who is a leader and provider it is as critical as his own health.
I've admired the photo above for many years. Most everyone knows the story. The phrase of "being like Daniel in the lion's den" has been used often. What do you see in the picture? A grounded man or a fearful man?
My grounding is being tested more than ever this year. I've never been so overwhelmed both personally and professionally. Add to that feelings of being undervalued and unappreciated. Now surround that with some of that fear and intimidation. It hits you mentally and physically. If definitely reveals whether you're grounded and what that looks like. Sinking sand? A rock? You tell me.
