Hi Tucker House Community!

We hope you are doing well, and enjoying the sunshine and fewer rainy days! Here is a mini-tidbits edition about what we've been up to this summer -- and what's coming up!

Country Fun Nature Camp is over for another year?   How did that happen?

We can't believe that it is already August and Country Fun Nature Camp is over! It was another fun-filled, energizing, and inspiring year. Our day camp for kids 5-13 years old aims to build an appreciation for nature in a faith-based setting, while youth leaders aged 14+ gain experience in leading outdoor education. The days were filled with games, nature walks, dip netting in the creek, working and learning in the garden, Bible stories, and water breaks. A white-pine-tree-sized thank you to all the staff, volunteers, campers, parents, and donors that made it possible!

...BUT it's time for our annual Country Fun Summer Celebration! Celebrating our Community: Saturday, August 12

Join us Saturday, August 12 as we come together to celebrate another successful year of camp and recognize funders that have allowed us to expand our garden and environmental education programs. There will be games, a property tour, a recognition event with honoured guests, and pool time (weather permitting).
We will also be showcasing our new History Mystery Adventure!  This is a brand-new team-building program where participants explore the house, completing  puzzles using real Tucker House artifacts in order to uncover the Tucker Family secret (can you guess?).

Festivities will take place  August 12 from 1 - 5 pm at 1731 Tucker Rd, Rockland, ON .
We will be celebrating rain or shine, so mark it in your calendars!

Save the date: Green Gala, Nov. 4th.
A History Mystery Masquerade, with Confederation Clues!

The mystery is in our history, so how much do you really know about the Tucker family? The Tuckers came to Clarence Creek in the 1800s and were quite the entrepreneurs with several lucrative businesses. The ninth annual Green Gala will take place November 4, 2017, and we will be uncovering more secrets through an interactive night of puzzles and intrigue -- and of course, a silent auction, music, delicious hors d'oeuvres, and fantastic beverages. This is a special opportunity for us to come together as a community to raise a glass, and reflect upon and celebrate the year's accomplishments as we raise funds for our programs and projects. We look forward to seeing you there for a Confederation-era masquerade!

Bookings Open for History Mystery Adventure

You and a few of your closest friends arrive at the front door of the Tucker Mansion. The scenario: as part of Stephen Tucker XIII's last will and testament, you've been invited to attempt to prove yourself worthy of inheriting the secret of the Tucker family. Test your mettle with the puzzles he's left behind, but do so in a timely manner lest the clues be destroyed and the secret lost forever!

Blending both local and Confederation history, with a mix of historical fact and fiction, Tucker House's History Mystery is an exciting way to experience the history of the family that helped shape the economy of Clarence-Rockland.

Remembering Peter Kurdziel
Honorary Founding Member

Peter, pictured here at last year's Country Fun reunion, was a long-time supporter of Tucker House and a supporter for over 50 years! He worked hard to ensure things ran smoothly, including as Treasurer, tirelessly working on the grounds and pool, and always ready to assist at Tucker House and Country Fun. He was well-loved by campers and volunteers, who were glad to see him last summer. A memorial service for Peter was held on July 15th, 2017, remembering a man who was a friend, mentor, hard-worker, and part of our family.
Several of Peter's lifelong friends have recently made donations to Tucker House and the camp in his memory.
If you would like to do the same, please contact Diana at 613-446-2117 x 3 or use the donate link below, and indicate "in memory of Peter Kurdziel" in the online form.
Our work matters, and your donations count

We mentioned the sunshine amidst the many rainy days, and this summer counted ourselves lucky to have fewer 40 degree heat warnings during camp.

Several recent news articles connect or explore the link between increased extreme weather and climate change , so it serves as an important reminder as to what changes a warmer climate will bring. This makes us at Tucker House feel like our work on environmental education is even more critical. Your donations help us with our mission to inspire sustainable living, for healthier communities for all of us. The gifts we receive assist through funding quality outdoor education for all ages, upgrades to infrastructure at the retreat centre, training and honoraria for volunteers, and core staffing to ensure well-managed programs and strategic planning.
