Culture Connect is a community-centered initiative created by the Yellow House Centre for Student Equity & Inclusion at Queen’s University. Launched in 2025, this program is designed to affirm, uplift, and celebrate the diverse identities and lived experiences of Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC) students through cultural programming, creative expression, and community care.
At Queen’s, it’s not always easy to feel like you belong, especially in environments that weren’t built with your experiences in mind. Culture Connect exists to change that. This program was built by and for students like you: students who want to be seen, celebrated, and supported in all the richness of their culture, identity, and story.

"My name is Kye Arienda-Jose, I am a first year commerce student and the owner of Kyesjewels. In the summer of Grade 9, I discovered jewelry making. What started off as a hobby, quickly turned into a profitable small business. They feature cute elements, such as cats, mushrooms and nature, but also popular characters such as Sanrio, Totoro and Pokémon. I sell mainly on my website and at markets.
My business has been my main outlet of creativity, as I get to share my crafts with others and help them find their personal style. Additionally, I enjoy crafts such as crocheting, embroidery and photography."

| My name is Emma and I’m a first-year commerce student. I’m super excited to share my hobby with you all. I’ve always loved to make soaps and recently started to make some inspired by cocktails 🍹. Coming from Florida, I wanted to create a tropical/ night vibe soap menu to bring the sunshine with me to Kingston 🌴. | Diversity Box of Cards is a social impact fundraising initiative I started with my dad to help schools and community organizations raise meaningful funds while promoting diversity and inclusion. Each box contains 40 beautifully designed greeting cards for multiple occasions and a small cookbook, making it a practical and thoughtful product that individuals and families enjoy using throughout the year. By combining everyday value with a message of representation and community, Diversity Box of Cards creates an easy, impactful way for people to support fundraising efforts while celebrating diversity. | Kaida is a fourth-year Biotechnology student at Queen’s University whose work draws inspiration from the natural world. Guided by curiosity and close observation, she creates art that reflects individuality. Having long been fascinated by insects, her involvement with the Queen’s Entomological Society has deepened her appreciation for them, leading her to incorporate subtle insect motifs as symbols of resilience. Hailey is a third-year Health Science student at Queen’s University. An animator, illustrator and chronic sticker maker, she creates art that are not only adorable but funny and personalized. The Yellow House Student Centre for Equity and Inclusion team is committed to creating comfortable and accountable spaces for students who identify as Queer, and/or Trans, and/or Black, and/or Indigenous, and/or as People of Colour (QTBIPoC) to feel safer, to create community, to be empowered, to celebrate their identity, and to flourish. We seek to engage students in initiatives that actively dismantle oppressive, racist, and colonial ideologies and practices.

A little about the Yellow House Newsletter
Welcome to the Yellow House Student Centre for Equity and Inclusion Newsletter! My name is Tianna Edwards and I am the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion Coordinator at Yellow House, I curate this special newsletter. I started my career in journalism and I am really passionate about storytelling as well as archival practices - especially when it comes to queer and racialized folks. I want students to feel seen and heard! The purpose of the newsletter is to build sentiments of belonging, validate lived experiences and celebrate all of the wonderful students, programs and events associated with the Yellow House and also make sure that folks know what is coming up so they don't miss any opportunities to participate!
