Shelf Life: History Edition
This week, we have a special story shared by library lover, Sue Regier - read on below to learn about why Sue loves libraries, including TCFL!
"I have loved books and libraries my whole life. From infancy, my grandmother read and sang to me. When I learned to read by myself, my mother and I visited the local library to check out books. In elementary school, Bookmobile Day was a gold star day for me. And through all my school years, my first stop when summer break began was to get a big pile of library books to while away the days. So, it is not surprising that shortly after retiring to Easton five years ago I showed up to volunteer at the Talbot County Free Library.
For two years, I staffed events and book sales while serving on the Friends of the Library Council. In 2022, I joined the TCFL Board of Trustees, the governing body of the library. In the past year, I also became a member of the TCFL Foundation which oversees the investments of donated monies. These three entities each have their role in creating and sustaining our Easton and St. Michaels libraries.
I cannot emphasize enough how rewarding my volunteer experiences with our library have been and I encourage anyone who loves libraries to explore these opportunities. Our libraries offer individual volunteer roles directly in the stacks as well. You can put in as many or as few hours as makes you happy.
I hope to see you at the library soon!"
