May 2026

From:

"For decades, LGBTQ+ Episcopalians and allies have worked to make The Episcopal Church a place of belonging and inclusion. We have prayed, studied, and discerned, and in doing so, we have seen the evidence of God’s blessing in the lives and love of our LGBTQ+ siblings in Christ.

In 2026, we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of our church affirming that LGBTQ+ people have a full and equal claim to the love, acceptance, and pastoral care of the church. The journey to make that promise a reality continues today, as we remember the struggles, celebrate the joy, and give thanks for love and for lives that refuse to be erased.

Today in The Episcopal Church, discernment for the ministries of bishop, priest, deacon, and lay leadership is open to all without discrimination. We celebrate and give thanks for the beauty, strength, and sacred worth of LGBTQ+ leaders across all contexts and callings."

Happenings Around the Diocese

Jess is Out for B+E+S+T Video

In mid May, our Bishop’s Executive Assistant, Jessica Lee, was out of the office attending the annual B+E+S+T Conference. Let’s just say…the office did not function quite the same without her, as this video clearly reveals. 😂

What is B+E+S+T?

It stands for Bishops Executive Secretaries Together — a professional association of men and women who support Episcopal Bishops through networking, education, and sharing best practices. Basically, they’re the people who make sure it all happens!

Thank you to all the “BESTies” for everything you do. We hope the other dioceses held down the fort better than we did!

Extending the Table: A Day of Service in St. Francisville - The Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana

by Karen Snyder

On May 2, members of Grace Church of West Feliciana in St. Francisville gathered at

Assisi Heights Apartments, a local residence for elderly and disabled neighbors, for a

day of service organized by the parish’s Mission and Outreach Committee. About 30

volunteers from Grace, joined many by parishioners from St. Francisville United

Methodist Church, served together in teams focused on cleaning, fellowship, and lunch.

Cleaning teams worked in pairs to assist residents with physically demanding tasks like

scrubbing floors and bathtubs and changing linens, sometimes providing new bedding.

The fellowship team offered music in the common area with keyboard, handbells, and

singing, while the lunch team served a hearty meal of jambalaya, rolls, fruit, and

homemade desserts, enough for some residents to take leftovers home.

Though not all residents requested cleaning, most gathered for fellowship and the meal.

One resident shared she felt “so loved and cared for.” The Rev. Craig Dalferes, rector,

reflected, “I always enjoy an opportunity to extend our table out into the community,”

giving thanks for the spirit of service and shared community.

Once the rain passed, participants made their way to Solomon Center, where Fr. Fred Devall led a special bird walk. Woodpeckers, ducks, and many other birds made their post-storm appearance.
