Peter Jefferson is the featured artist at the Living Arts Gallery in Hawi during the months of July and August. The public is invited to attend an Artist Reception and meet Peter Jefferson on Friday, July 5th, from 3 to 7 pm at the Living Arts Gallery, located in uptown Hawi at 55-3435 Akoni Pule Highway. Music, drinks and pupus will be served.
Peter loves all dynamic subjects in his watercolors, "Capturing waves crashing, wind with clouds billowing upwards, and trees bent sideways make magical landscapes," says Peter, "We Big Islanders sometimes take this dramatic landscapes for granted, but they always move me. Similarly, Hawaiian hula dancers are grace in motion. Their striking colors and exotic poses delight my eye with their fluid movements. I love the challenge of capturing these actions and moments in watercolor."
In addition to island landscapes and hula dancers, bamboo and resort golf courses, one of Peter's most popular paintings has been his series of "Geisha Napescapes." These have more of a graphic design quality to them, and capture the delicacy of the subject in vibrant colors.
Peter grew up in New York City, trained as both an Architect and an Engineer. A part-time island resident since 1998, Peter and his family moved permanently to the Big Island in 2011. Peter became an Associate Member of the Living Arts Gallery July of 2012. He favors plein air painting and paints on location with the North Kohala Plein Air painters, the West Hawaii Watercolor group, and the Village artists at Mauna Lani.
Peter's work is on display at the Living Arts Gallery, located on the main street of Hawi, and open daily from 10:30 am to 5:30 pm. More of his paintings can be seen at the gallery website,
