Join the Olympia Tumwater Foundation for History Talks on Thursday, November 5, at noon, featuring stamp collector Gerry Smith presenting Nineteenth Century Mail to Olympia.

How did mail make its way to Olympia in the 1800s? Join stamp collector and postal history enthusiast Gerry Smith for a fascinating look at the routes, contractors and transportation networks that connected early Olympia to the wider world.

From the Hudson's Bay Company and the Cowlitz Corridor to steamboats on Puget Sound, Gerry will trace the evolution of mail delivery in the region, illustrated with examples of historic mail sent to Olympia.

A lifelong stamp collector, Gerry has a special interest in the Railway Mail Service and Railway Post Office mail.
