We have assembled an exciting lineup of guests from some of our favorite local cultural establishments. Below is brief bio for each guest and a relevant overview of their organization.
Topics to be discussed may include:

Kristina Newman-Scott President, BRIC
|
Kristina Newman-Scott was appointed President of BRIC in July 2018. She is the first immigrant and first woman of color to serve in this position. Previously, Newman-Scott served as the Director of Culture and State Historic Preservation Officer for the State of Connecticut.
Kristina describes herself as a Jamaican-raised cultural strategist, connecting minds to a vision and hands to a purpose of meaningful existence.
BRIC
is the leading presenter of free cultural programming in Brooklyn and a major incubator and supporter of Brooklyn artists and media-makers. With origins dating back to 1979 and the
Fund for the Borough of Brooklyn
, BRIC serves hundreds of thousands annually.
BRIC maintains a commitment to the communities surrounding BRIC House through collaboration with cultural, social, and educational organizations as well as new and long-time residents. Learn more about their

With over 15 years of experience as a curator, journalist / editor, and multi-media marketer, Amy is a veteran of global editorial programming and promotional campaigns across print, web, mobile and video. She has held executive positions at
TRACE
magazine,
The Source
magazine, MTV, Ketchum Digital and Red Bull studios. As the founder of her own company
Aimstar Media
she has consulted for numerous global brands. Amy currently leads programming and development efforts at MoCADA
MoCADA (Museum of Contemporary Diasporan Arts) is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2019. Founded by Laurie Cumbo in a Bed-Stuy brownstone, MoCADA's mission is to
incite dialogue on pressing social and political issues facing the African Diaspora and to foster a dynamic space for the creation and continuous evolution of culture.
Through its
youth programs
, MoCADA exposes young people to the history and culture of the African Diaspora to help children better understand their own legacy and identity.

In her role as Director of Education at
Mark Morris
, Sarah designs and implements all educational programming for students of all ages and abilities both on-site at the
Mark Morris Dance Center
and throughout New York City. In addition to developing and executing programming, she teaches technique for students of all ages as well as in the Dance for PD® program.
Sarah received her B.S. from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music and danced professionally for the Oakland Ballet Company. She currently sits on the Education Committee of the Downtown Brooklyn Arts Alliance.

Mark Morris Dance Group
is committed to providing access to meaningful artistic experiences for people of all ages at locations throughout Brooklyn and New York City. The Education team works in partnership with students, parents, and community-based organizations to create appropriate class offerings to serve students with and without physical disabilities and/or developmental delays in both inclusive and adaptive environments.

Beth Allen assumed the role of part-time Executive Director at the
Downtown Brooklyn Arts Alliance
in late-2017, as the organization began its transition from a volunteer-led entity to a professionally staffed non-profit. Since 2016, she has also worked freelance as a grant writer and development consultant, drawing on 14 years working in development at primarily younger, smaller, entrepreneurial arts organizations including
U.S. Biennial/Prospect New Orleans
and
Art21
.
Beth holds a graduate certificate from the Institute for Curatorial Practice in Performance at Wesleyan University, C.Phil and MA in Art History from the University of California, Los Angeles, and BA in History from Northwestern University.
The
Downtown Brooklyn Arts Alliance (DBAA)
is a coalition of more than
35 cultural groups
organized to connect and serve Downtown Brooklyn cultural organizations, to communicate their impact on Downtown Brooklyn, and to actively mobilize in the best interests of the cultural sector in Downtown Brooklyn.

Each organization will have a table at the event with representatives and information about how you can join, get involved, enjoy more of their programming, and generally connect with the wealth of arts and culture we are so fortunate to have in Fort Greene.

NOTES ABOUT 2019 FGA OPEN MEETINGS:
The FGA Will Host Monthly Open Meetings in 2019!

- Every month excluding July & August.
- All FGA open meetings in 2019 will be held on the 3rd Monday of the month unless that Monday falls on a holiday (i.e. MLK, Presidents' Day, etc.).
- In those instances, the FGA meetings will be on the 2nd Monday of the month.
