A publication of the Mississippi Low-Income Child Care Initiative | March 2026

Dear CCLT Members and Partners,

The MDHS Appropriations Bill (HB 1909) has been sent to conference. That means that three Representatives and three Senators will meet to negotiate what will become the final legislation. These meetings, often held in secret, could take place at any time between now and next weekend's deadline.

Your calls to the committee leadership have worked! The Senate added $15 million to the bill prior to it going to conference. We still need your voice to advocate for additional state funds for CCPP.

Keep using the below call script:

Hello, my name is [Name], and I live in [City/County].

I’m calling to ask Senator/Representative [Last Name] to include $60 million in state funding for the Child Care Payment Program (CCPP) in the House Bill 1909 Conference Report.

Child care is essential for Mississippi’s workforce. Our community depends on affordable child care. Without stable funding for CCPP, many parents will lose access to child care and may be forced to leave their jobs. At the same time, child care providers are struggling to stay open.

Investing $60 million in CCPP will help:

  • More parents stay employed
  • More children receive safe, quality care
  • Employers retain a reliable workforce

Your leadership is critical to keeping childcare strong in Mississippi. Thank you for your time and for supporting Mississippi families.

ABOUT MLICCI
In Mississippi, one of the biggest barriers to employment for low-income single moms is access to child care. Because we believe that no mother should have to choose between the job she needs and the child she loves, MLICCI works to improve the state’s child care assistance program and strengthen the financial viability of the child care centers that serve low-income mothers.
