It's not easy for a senior who has never sought assistance in their life to show up at Catholic Charities East Bay, eviction notice in hand, asking for help. But since 2023, we've seen a 39% increase in people over age 55 doing just that. This is one of the insights shared with supporters at our January 16, 2025, Coffee on the Quarter, which focused on Housing Services. Our Housing Project Manager shared the words of a woman whose family we helped:
"Words cannot express how grateful I am to you and your team for making the awesome decision to help...the thought of being homeless along with my 90-year-old mother weighed heavy on my heart...Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" She went on to write, "My heart bleeds when I see people on the street. All have a story."
With your help, along with grants and donations, we are able to help our neighbors with delinquent rental and mortgage assistance, move in costs, payment of past due utility bills, referrals to other services, and advocacy. In total, Catholic Charities East Bay provided $649,420. in financial assistance in 2024, leading to stable housing, improved health and well-being, and reduced homelessness.
