Mt. Crescent Ski Area Will Open for 22-23 Season

Pottawattamie County residents will receive a 25% discount on lift tickets and season passes, which will go on sale October 1st at skicrescent.com. Seasonal positions will also be posted in the coming weeks on the county's website, www.pottcounty-ia.gov.


Immediate updates will include increasing snow-making and grooming, reduced wait times, and opening in the evening during the week to accommodate working individuals and families.

Check out these recent updates to Old Town and Botna Bend Park.


Old Town Park (above) in Macedonia now has eight new campsites that will soon be ready for visitors this fall and Botna Bend Park in Hancock (below) is in the process of adding 20 total campsites to its south campground which will be open to the public this spring. The park's boat ramp was also recently redone and will soon be open for public water access.

Seedball Challenge: Help Us Make 2,000!

You can restore vital pollinator habitat with Milkweed Matters this weekend.

No...these aren't Oreo balls, silly. They're seedballs from Milkweed Matters! We need YOUR help this weekend to make 2,000 of these puppies that will be tossed along roadsides to restore habitat for vital pollinators like the Monarch.


Swing by the Hitchcock Nature Center Loess Hills Lodge this Saturday, September 10th, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and help us reach our goal. Seedballs include milkweed, goldenrod, and other native aster seed.


Don't forget to register by midnight tonight for one of our Monarch Tagging events: 9 a.m. | 11 a.m. | 1 p.m. | 3 p.m.

The monarch butterflies are on their way! Every year in late summer, the super-generation of monarchs make their way to overwintering grounds in Mexico. Come learn about monarch butterflies, their life cycle, and their miraculous migration to Mexico as we teach you how we catch, handle, and tag monarchs for research.

Join Dustin Clayton as you explore tales and lore related to the Autumn equinox as the birds begin to flock, the nights begin to cool, and harvest season enters full swing. Discuss preserving medicines as tinctures and teas and think about harvest's tie to reciprocity.

Join us for the final and most challenging hike of the 2022 Hitch Hike series! Head out to the westernmost section of the park overlooking an astounding view of the Missouri River floodplain. All experience levels welcome but this +2.5 mile hike traverses steep terrain.
