WELCOME GIOVANNY RODRIGUEZ TO THE CARVER TEAM

Carver Center announces the appointment of Giovanny Rodriguez to the new position of Director of Carver Market & Retail Recovery.

Giovanny comes to Carver with a wealth of experience in the food retail sector. He will oversee the logistics and operation of the Carver Market which currently serves 1,750 families through self-choice shopping that features regular offerings of fresh produce, proteins, dairy, and shelf-stable items. Giovanny will also manage our Retail Recovery Program. Carver Center is one of only three Westchester County-based organizations participating in the Retail Recovery Program sponsored by Feeding Westchester.

Kudos to this year's senior class and our Teen Center staff for mentoring, advising, and providing support to our Teens throughout the school year.

PROVIDING SUPPORT WHERE IT IS NEEDED MOST

As part of an ongoing volunteer opportunity, Teen Center members were invited to help renovate the Recreation Room at the Drew Street Senior Citizens Apartment Complex.

Walls were spackled and painted, windows were cleaned and adjusted, kitchen drawers and closets were organized. Even the Christmas tree was disassembled and ornaments were wrapped and boxed for future use.

It was a rewarding experience for all!

PLANNING THEIR FUTURES

Carver Center sponsored our Annual College and Career Fair on April 17 for high school juniors, seniors, and their families.

Representatives from 4-year colleges, community colleges, trade & technical schools, and employment programs were available to provide valuable information and resources to our teens.

NEW CHROMEBOOKS FOR TEENS

The STEM Alliance was here to distribute 60 new Chromebooks to our Teen Center high school students. The distribution was made possible through a grant through the Office of Children and Family Services and sponsored by Assemblyman Steve Otis.

Over the past two years, our partnership with The STEM Alliance has been paramount in providing STEM education and digital equity to students and our community members (Pictured Steve Otis and a Teen Center member).

DID YOU SAY CAMPBELL'S SOUP CANS?

Our friends from Westchester Jewish Community Services Art Explorers provided two creative and fun art workshops to our children in the after school program at Thomas A. Edison Elementary School.

Children delighted in creating their own versions of Andy Warhol's "cans".

GUIDANCE FOR OUR CITIZENSHIP CLASS PARTICIPANTS

Every month, Carver Center offers consultations, free of charge, with an immigration attorney who helps our students navigate the process of becoming U.S. citizens. The next opportunity will be on Tuesday, April 30th.

Our Citizenship classes are offered in both English and Spanish to Port Chester’s immigrant population. Classes are designed to help individuals prepare for the citizenship exam to become naturalized citizens. Our students achieve greater social and economic mobility, allowing them to contribute to their communities.
