Join us for the Special Olympics Chicago/Special Children’s Charities Annual Evening Reception

Enjoy an evening celebrating our incredible Chicago athletes and the people who help us make a difference in their lives. Tickets are $125 which include heavy appetizers and drinks. All proceeds support athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Chicago.

Thank you to our Chicago Marathon Runners!

We are so grateful for our #TeamSpecialOChicago runners who raised $500,000 through this year's Bank of America Chicago Marathon on Sunday, October 8. We had 232 runners on the course raising money to support our athletes. Their determination, hard work, and generosity will help us fund the programs thousands of our athletes enjoy.

We had an incredible time cheering on #TeamSpecialOChicago from our cheering section at the Chicago Firehouse Restaurant. Thank you to everyone who joined us to make it a great day.

Athletes in Action

Our athletes have had a busy month with tons of exciting activities, classes, competitions, and events. Check out some highlights of their fun and accomplishments.

Thank you to Kosciuszko Park

Thank you to the athletes from Kosciuszko Park who joined us on at our Marathon Headquarters to cheer on #TeamSpecialOChicago runners at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon! This fun group made signs, cheered, and gave out high fives to encourage runners as they neared the end of the race.

State Fall Games

On October 21 and 22, 120 athletes and 30 coaches traveled to Rockford for this year's State Fall Games! They competed in volleyball team and skills play. Our teams brought home five first place medals, two second place medals and one third place medals. In the individual competitions, ten athletes came in first, eleven came in second, four came in third and fourth, and one came in fifth. Congratulations to everyone on such a successful weekend of competition!

Cooking Classes are back

After a short break, our virtual cooking demos are back! Last week, nearly 100 athletes joined Chef Jared from Common Threads to make Italian salad and pasta with meat sauce.

It was a delicious hearty meal that fed the whole family!

At our November class, we'll be making turkey tacos!

Autumn Art Class

Recently our athletes got into the fall spirit with a fun seasonal art class from Pinot's Palette.

Working with an instructor, they created fun and colorful paintings of pumpkins. These pieces of art will be great to celebrate Halloween next week.

We are geared up and ready for fall with some fun Family Opportunities from the Chicago Park District. This season we have Driving Range, Mini Golf, Indoor Rowing, and Golf.

Athlete Artwork Feature

Francisco “Joey” Vega is the athlete who created October’s featured artwork, entitled “Soccer Fan”. Joey’s artwork shows two teams competing in a game of soccer while enjoying a day in the sun. We love watching all of our athletes participate in our sports and cheering for everyone. Our athletes are champions at soccer!
