S-M-A-R-T GOALS
Greetings!

Happy New Year!
It's a fresh year of promise and opportunity. To me, it feels a bit magical.

Did you create a list of resolutions? Are these the new or the microwave-reheated goalposts from last year? The same 10 pounds? The same goal to read a book a week? The same promise to yourself to dive into that new hobby or practice better "self-care"?

If these are the same goals, then you haven't achieved them. That's valuable information. It means you need a new plan of action.

The best way to achieve your goals is to make them S-M-A-R-T. Take the goal to read a book a week, here's how to make it S-M-A-R-T.

• Specific - Goals should be specific and narrow. Think "I want to complete a book a week," rather than "I want to read more."

• Measurable - How do you know you're making progress? Think "Each month I will put 4 new books on my nightstand," rather than "I'll pick new books every month."

• Achievable - Can you actually accomplish this? Do you need extra support? What?

• Relevant - Does this align with your values? How will this improve your life? "Reading more will help me explore my interest in historical figures and contribute more to networking conversations" rather than "I want to learn more."

• Timebound - Set a realistic end date. "One each week, Monday-Sunday."

Pro tip:

Don't make these 2022 goals, make them Q1/Q2 goals. We never know what's going to happen, what new information or challenges might come our way. Reassess your goals early. That way you can course correct and make the most out of this year.
Want Fewer HR Complaints?
Want to Identify the Next Generation of Leaders?
Then You Need the FLP Leadership Dialogue Series!

What is our Award-Winning Leadership Dialogue Series?

We all know that teams that communicate better stay on track, on time and produce better results. One hour a week, for 7+ weeks, your staff engages in facilitated discussions that explore soft skills, conflict resolution, communication, and self-care. Providing a dedicated space to explore helps employees stay focused. And in a time when we are so dispersed, it helps them reconnect. After 7+ weeks, each and every employee will have experience as a facilitator and improved leadership skills.

How does the Leadership Dialogue Series work?

First, we teach employees how to be facilitators. Then, we provide the curriculum and wrap-around support so that everyone, from managers to the mailroom, can step into their role as facilitator and confidently lead. Each week, small groups have lively, meaningful, and educational discussions. Exercises and role plays get them thinking more expansively about how to apply these skills in the workplace and in their daily lives. Periodic all-staff meetings ensure we stay on track.

We have six modules, each 5-8weeks long. Some businesses bring us in for one module, some hire us for all modules or to help us develop some of their own. We explore topics like: Organization and time management; Leadership styles; Negotiation; Stress management; Effective decision-making; Identity; and Storytelling.

How does it help a business run better?

At the end of the program, staff leave with experience as a facilitator, stronger soft skills, honed communication skills, increased trust and a sense of camaraderie. In a time when employees are leaving the workplace in high numbers, this level of engagement keeps them interested, motivated and helps them feel seen.

What people are saying:

"My nonprofit works every week with Genesis and her staff around improving soft skills in the work place. Not only has it made us know each other and trust each other more, staff look forward to our time! Many examples of increased productivity and applying what we learn personally and professionally. This makes our part of the world a better place. Thanks Genesis!!!"

"I highly recommend...[FLP] led Dialogue Series with the agency I work for. It has led to a lot of phenomenal and beneficial conversations. These conversations and the material learned through Dialogue Series led to professional and personal growth. I will definitely continue to apply what I've learned in my daily life." Stephanie B.
