Warren Strickland was born in Brattleboro Vermont. Originally a two dimensional artist preferring to draw with pencil illustrating portraits. In 1989 he started woodcarving small animals moving on to busts of people. During his time as a wood carver he traveled the mid west and eastern part of the United States taking seminars to broaden his skills in both wood and stone.
He met his wife Jan, and they lived in Tennessee where they maintained a private art studio. During this time Jan developed into a pottery artist. Together they have encouraged and supported one another each growing as artists in their own right. In 2018 he and Jan relocated to Birmingham Alabama.
Warren’s original works range from small animation characters; like Olaf the Snow Man, the Pokemon “Pikachu, and Toothless the Dragon to Life size Portraits of people and fantasy characters.
Commissions have included rendering a family “Coat of Arms” into over eighty individual pieces of clay forming a large 52” puzzle like wall hanging.
Now after over 34 years, Sculptor Warren Strickland works primarily in water based (earthenware) clay and stone focusing on busts or portraits of a diverse nature. Sculptures are rendered from the realistic to the fanciful.
