YIS Community Kabbalat Shabbat Dinner
w/Charlie Harary
December 6-7
Dear Friends,

Each year around the month of Kislev, in the spirit of Chanukah, we come together to rededicate ourselves to our communal strivings.  We join each other for a special community Kabbalat Shabbat and Dinner. It is in this forum that we highlight what is special about our Kehillah, with multiple generations sitting together, getting to know each other and enjoying each other's company.
This year, we are especially honored to have with us, internationally renowned speaker, Charlie Harary, who will provide inspiration in the unique way only he can. We will also be joined by popular YIS Chazzan, Mordy Weinstein, and his hand picked accapella quartet. In addition, we are excited to welcome a number of families who have recently moved in to our community and other visiting prospective families who will undoubtedly be welcomed into our midst with the warmth and friendship that the Young Israel of Scarsdale is known for.
I strongly encourage you and your families to join us in what will be a truly special Shabbat experience for men, women, and children of all ages. We especially invite all of our members with young children who may have never been to this event before. Our incredible Youth Directors, Yoram and Atara, have an amazing array of Youth and Toddler activities planned for the evening.
Looking forward to seeing  you all there.

Shabbat Shalom!

 Summer 2020 Itinerary
A Journey to Spain, Portugal and Gibraltar
Join us as we travel back in time, with Rabbi Morgenstern and JRoots ( www.jroots.org), to learn about a thriving Jewish culture that molded a rich Sephardic heritage and influenced Jewry throughout the world. Jews arrived in Spain over 2,000 years ago. Spain and its surrounding provinces were once home to the largest, most prosperous and cultivated, Jewish communities in the world. We will encounter the roots of some of our most important thinkers and Jewish leaders like the Rambam, Rav Yehuda HaLevi, Isaac Abarbanel and others. We will also interface with local centuries-old communities of Marranos/Crypto-Jews, who adhere to a "hidden" Jewish identity and culture to this day - concluding with a special Shabbat in the beautiful modern Jewish community of Gibraltar. We will also, of course, visit world heritage sites and places of historic importance and beauty throughout our journey through Portugal, Southern Spain and Gibraltar. It promises to be an unforgettable experience.
Couples and Adults welcome.
