*Asara B' Tevet
Asara B’Tevet is unlike any other public fast day, in that when it falls out on Friday, as it does this year, the fast is not moved to Thursday, or “pushed off” - rather it is observed as Scripture delineates it, on the 10th of Tevet, even on a Friday, Erev Shabbat. As such, the fast extends into the beginning of our observance of Shabbat following candle lighting up until nightfall - and we break our fasts on Kiddush at (or after) 5:20pm.
Tzom Kal and Shabbat Shalom to all!

A Timely Message Regarding the Rabbi's Discretionary Fund: Continue to Help Us Help the Jewish People, Here & In Israel - Donate Today!
Dear Friends,
With the Chanukah season upon us and as we approach the end of the calendar year, we request that you please consider making a gift to the Rabbi's Discretionary Fund (RDF). For many years, the Fund has served a vital purpose in primarily helping individuals and organizations in our own community in the areas of Jewish education and other important needs - helping families with the cost of camp, school, and Israel tuitions and defraying healthcare costs and basic needs; it also provides support and assistance in the wider Jewish community - in the New York area and in Israel. We are very proud that we have helped Am Yisrael, in Israeli communities and in the IDF, in innumerable ways - raising and distributing tens of thousands of dollars to worthy needs of all kinds. We have accomplished this primarily through the YIS, Sara Ackerman Memorial, ISRAEL FUND, as well as, through your generous donations to the RDF.
In addressing the needs of a family or an individual, we try to respond to all requests with discretion and with the care and compassion for which our community is known and, in doing so, we make a real difference in the lives of others with anonymity and dignity. This is, as many of us know, the best way that Tzedaka should be given. And, while the Fund operates in the most discreet way, it is overseen by two well-respected members of the community who sign all checks from the Fund.
Over the years, generous donors have quietly contributed to the Fund and we are so appreciative of their continued support. But at this time, for the reasons outlined above, we'd like to extend the participation in this vital Mitzvah of Tzedaka to all.
I know that there have been many fundraising requests over these past couple of months, but the needs are great and Am Yisrael needs us at this time. We ask that you consider a suggested gift to the Fund of $180 or more, though any amount would be appreciated.
| |
We thank you for your concern for Am Yisrael. May we always be blessed to be able to give and support others in times of need.
Chanukah Sameach & AM YISRAEL CHAI!
Respectfully,
Rabbi Jonathan Morgenstern

Young Israel of Scarsdale/Yachad Shabbaton Housing - 2025
The Shabbat of January 31st - February 1st our Shul will be hosting a Yachad Shabbaton. This will be a wonderful opportunity for our community to engage in the spirit of Chesed to foster the notion that young men and women with diverse abilities all have a place within our Jewish community. This Shabbaton will help educate our teens and teach them to advocate for greater understanding and acceptance with an inclusive attitude towards all.
In order to ensure that our Yachad Shabbaton will be a success we need help from community members to host Yachad members and staff.
To sign up to host please click here to fill out a short Google form.
