Young SIOG Elections

Late 2020, we have welcomed our new chair Melissa Loh and this month we welcome the newly elected vice-chair Fabio Gomes. This recent election saw a very active participation of our members with only 9% of abstention.

The final election round for the remaining four (4) governance members is now open, so please check your emails and cast your votes before February 9, 2021.

As an interest group within SIOG our overarching aims are:

To establish a collaborative network of young researchers and clinicians
To facilitate mentorship of young researchers by more experienced investigators in the field
To promote education and advocate for geriatric oncology in our institutions and countries

Meet the Members

Nina Rosa Neuendorff is an internist and hemato-oncologist working at the University Hospital in Essen (Germany), Department for Hematology and Stem-Cell Transplantation.

Before getting into medicine, she spent most of her life playing piano. Afterwards, she obtained her medical degree from the University in Marburg. After performing her MD thesis in basic science, she completed her internal medicine training at Charité University Hospital in Berlin and her hematology specialist training at Heidelberg University Hospital.

Her main areas of clinical and research interests include acute leukemia, aggressive lymphoma, and allogeneic stem-cell transplantation in older adults.

Thus, she is working on several projects in this field, including proxy-assisted sarcopenia screening in critically ill older adults, cardiac comorbidities during autologous stem-cell transplantation, and clonal hematopoiesis. Currently, she serves as a member of the Young SIOG governance.

SIOG 2021 Webinar Series – Lymphoma (March 15)

This is the first webinar of this series and it is free of charge. Registration is required.

SIOG 2021 Advanced Course – Treviso, Italy (June 30 - July 3)

Applications for this course are already closed, but applications for the 2022 course will open in late 2021 / early 2022.

SIOG 2021 Annual Conference - Geneva, Switzerland (November 4-6)

The registrations and abstract submissions will open on World Cancer Day (February 4).

This year is still going to be challenging but we will meet in Geneva to celebrate SIOG’s family reunion and SIOG 20^th Anniversary. On this occasion, the Scientific Committee is preparing an engaging scientific programme which will include the well-known MDT sessions, the Rapid Fire Updates session and also compelling debates and Geriatric Assessment workshops amongst other sessions developed around the following tracks: solid tumours and basic science, hematologic malignancies and basic science, supportive and palliative care, geriatric assessment. Many field experts have already accepted to join us to deliver their talks to their peers.
