Cal and Diana were recently honored at the WRYMC Awards Banquet on January 14th in Los Angeles.

ASCE New Faces of Civil Engineering

Don Nguyen has been named on of ASCE's 10 New Faces of Civil Engineering - Professional Edition. He will be honored at the ASCE OPAL Awards on March 16th in Arlington, VA.

Brides for a Cause resells wedding dresses to raise money for women's health, education, and supportive services,  Over $400,000 has been donated to women-focused charities from funds raised from collecting and reselling wedding dresses.  

We will help set up dresses for Seattle's annual "Dress Dash", a bridal dress sale for Brides for a Cause.

ASCE Society Level Award Applications due February 1st!
The YMF is looking for nominees for the upcoming Society Level Awards. These are national awards get very few applicants. Awards will be presented to the winners in New Orleans, LA this Fall! Deadline for Application: Wed., February 1st.  

Collingwood Prize
Have you recently been published in an ASCE journal? If so, please apply for the Collingwood Prize! The Collingwood Prize is awarded to an author, under 35 years of age who contributed to an ASCE Journal  in the Past 12 months. Publications during graduate school also qualify.

Daniel Mead Prize
Enjoy writing?  Prepare a 2,00 word essay on professional ethics.   2017 Topic:  "Is it ethical for university engineering faculty to teach technical subject matter to engineering students without obtaining professional licensure?"

February K-12 Outreach Opportunities!
Next month is going to be a really exciting month for ASCE for two main reasons:

1) National Engineers Week which is February 19-25 and
2) The national premiere of "Dream Big: Engineering Our World", a giant-screen film presented in partnership with ASCE.

To accompany these two exciting events, there are a couple of community outreach opportunities for anyone who is interested in engaging with kids and families about the Civil Engineering profession.  If you're interested in volunteering at any of the upcoming events, please send me an email with the day and time that you're available to volunteer.

Saturday - Monday, February 18-20th
"Engineer It!" Weekend (see attached for more info)
@ the Pacific Science Center

This is a three day science festival to kick off engineers week and the premiere of "Dream Big".  ASCE would like to have a booth for all three days if we have enough volunteer capacity.  If you're interested in volunteering for "Engineer It!" weekend, please indicate the day(s) and the time of day (morning or afternoon) that you're available.
 
Both of these events will include fun and engaging activities for kids and their families. The goal is to get people excited about the Civil Engineering profession, which is guaranteed to be a really great time!  If you have any questions or if you are interested in volunteering, please contact Brad Strandquist

Annual YMF Ski Retreat
February 24th - 26th
Mt. Hood, Oregon 

We will join the Portland, Bellingham, and Tacoma ASCE YMFs at Mt. Hood for our annual Ski Retreat in late February. Please let Elyssa Dixon at elyssa.dixon@gmail.com know if you are interested in joining so we can evaluate cabin needs or if you have any questions. More information will be available at a later date.

Volunteers Needed - Upcoming Popsicle Stick Bridge (PSB) Competition!
Volunteer with us for one of our biggest events of the year, Popsicle Stick Bridge Competition 2017! It will be held at the Museum of Flight next Saturday on February 4th, 2017. Activities for volunteers will include facilitating registration, judging, set up/clean up, emceeing, photography, scoring, and simply providing enthusiasm and energy for engineering to the students that are in attendance.
