Sound Transit Tunnel Technical Tour Recap |
|
Hi Everyone!
A few weeks ago several University of Washington and Seattle University Civil Engineering students had the opportunity to take a technical tour of the new Sound Transit Tunnel in Bellevue.
The E330 Downtown Bellevue Tunnel is an approximately 2,000 foot long tunnel for the East Link Light Rail Extension. It is being excavated utilizing the Sequential Excavation Method (SEM) using hydraulic excavators and supported with lattice girders and high early strength fiber reinforced shotcrete. A big thank you to Drew Mason, PE with Atkinson Construction for providing an informational and fun technical tour for the students.

Concrete Technology Corporation Tour |
|
Tacoma, WA 98421
CTC pioneered the development of the pre-stressed concrete industry in the United States. Today, CTC's 30-acre plant includes over 150,000 sf of enclosed production facilities; a state-of-the-art batch plant; welding, rebar, and carpentry fabrication shops; bridge, gantry, and mobile cranes; and shipping by truck, rail, and barge. The result of this is thousands of bridges, buildings, piers, tanks, floats and other structures throughout the Pacific Northwest and Alaska have been built with CTC products. (www.concretetech.com)
The tour will start with a presentation about history, the prestressing process, application, and safety. Followed by a tour through the fabrication yard to see stressing beds, equipment, and setup.
Personal Safety Requirement
CTC can provide all personal protective gear, but asks that all coming for the tour wear long pants and sturdy shoes/boots (no tennis shoes).
