Job-protected medical leave lets workers return to work after serious illness

Workers with a serious illness or injury will have improved job protection under a proposed amendment to the Employment Standards Act in BC. Following the changes, working people will be able to take as many as 27 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave within a 12-month period to undergo medical treatment and recovery.

B.C.'s Labour Market Outlook

Find out about projected job openings for the next 10 years to help you make informed decisions about your career. The 2024 edition of the B.C. Labour Market Outlook (“Outlook”) is a 10-year forecast covering the period from 2024 to 2034. It provides an estimate of future labour supply for B.C. by occupation, as well as labour demand by industry, occupation, education and training, and development region. It also identifies which occupations will offer the most opportunity, as well as the level of education and training that each occupation typically requires.

The BladeRunners Program is returning February, 2026!

BladeRunners provides free life and job readiness skills, work experience, on-the-job training, job coaching, and ongoing supports to unemployed or precariously employed young adults. The BladeRunners programs are delivered throughout B.C. and provide a variety of skills training options.


If you are 15-30 yrs old and looking for work, this program may be just the right fit for you.


Participants receive Employment-related training and support, such as:

·   Job readiness skills

·   Certification courses (e.g. WHMIS, First Aid Level 1)

·   Job coaching and support

·   Workplace communication skills

·   Job placement opportunities

·   Life skills training
