"Miners’ Wives Carrying Sacks of Coal" Vincent Van Gogh (1881)

SIXTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

July 20, 2025

This Sunday Rev. Anna Grace Claunch will preach a sermon entitled

"The Unexamined Life"

based on Amos 8:1-12.

Join us in worship at 10 am in person or via livestream

on Facebook, YouTube, or our Livestream page.

In Our Prayers

  • The prayers of the congregation go out to the family of Jeff Smith, whose father Roger C. Smith of New Canaan, Connecticut died on July 13th. We give thanks for a life well-lived for 97 years, and for the happy, loving memories that will survive this loss.

  • Terri Campion asks that the congregation join her in praying for her friend Marc Castle and his partner, Tom Keegan. Tom has recently been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.

  • Lori Godwin asks for prayers for:
  • Matt Miller, her cousin who has fallen ill while serving as an engineer on a commercial vessel at sea; and
  • Harry, the son of her friend Jane, who continues to battle significant health issues.

A Message to

LAC from the STEM ALLIANCE

We want to thank you and the Larchmont Avenue Church community for the generous support you’ve extended to our

Co-Op Summer Enrichment

program. We are so grateful for the church’s partnership and for the care and generosity your congregation has shown.

We’d be delighted to welcome you and members of the LAC community to our upcoming Co-Op Open House on Wednesday, July 30th, from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Chatsworth Elementary School.

This is a wonderful opportunity to see the program in action, where community spirit meets joyful, hands-on learning. The morning will include a brief presentation, time for Q&A, and a guided tour of the vibrant activities taking place on site.

You can RSVP here: https://thestemalliance.org/coop-open-house.html

CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS!

This August,

Compassion Camp 2025: Changing the World with Loving-Kindness is just around the corner with a record 42 campers!

We need YOU to help make it the best week of the summer!

Whether you're a master of crafts, a snack-time superstar, a game guru, or just someone who loves seeing kids grow in faith, joy, and compassion, there's a place for you here. There is no advanced preparation, and you can help as little or as much as your schedule allows - a few hours, just one day, or more -- please join us!

What we love the most about LAC is the love that you all have for its children, so together let’s continue to live out our promise to be active participants in building a community where children are nurtured and loved!

If you have any questions, please contact Anna Grace Claunch (agclaunch@lacny.org).

You can sign up to volunteer by clicking the link below.

Liturgists

Volunteer to be a reader in a worship service. The text for the Prayer for Illumination and the scripture reading is provided to you in advance.

LAC Food Connection

Could you prepare a meal for a member of our congregation in need? The LAC Food Connection, under the auspices of the Deacons, provides occasional meals for our members who might have surgery or something that prevents them from cooking themselves. Please contact lacoffice@lacny.org to offer your help. We will add you to our list of volunteers.

August is a difficult time to muster volunteers. Midnight Run is seeking volunteers for these specific tasks:

  • One adult driver to meet us at the church at 8:15Pm to bring supplies to NYC. This is a great activity for a parent and teen.
  • Four or five teen volunteers to travel to NYC
  • One volunteer to make 1.5 gallons of pasta salad.
  • Two families to each make10 lunches.

Contact Jim Hanley @ (Mobile) 914-588-3648 for further details or to sign up.
