IN OUR PRAYERS

  • We rejoice with Jennifer and Cardwell Potts as they welcomed their twin boys, Bennett William and George Sutton on July 27th! We give thanks that both babies and their parents are doing well, and we celebrate these two precious new lives with joy and gratitude.

  • We give thanks for the return of Rev. Bynum after his month away in Scotland for a pulpit exchange, and we are grateful for Calum, who has shared his gifts, preaching, and ministry with us. We pray for safe travels for them both as they make their journeys home. May God bless the friendships and connections this special time of shared ministry has fostered between our congregations across the ocean.

  • We pray for Betty Roodal’s great-nephew, Christopher, as he prepares to undergo a second surgery for kidney stones. His spirits are understandably low at this time. We pray for strength and peace for Christopher, a successful surgery, and healing in the days ahead.

  • Nursery caregiver Delmi Zapet, a long-time caregiver in our church nursery, has shared that she recently lost her full-time weekday job. In addition to a request for prayers for her and her family, Delmi asks that if anyone knows of possible employment opportunities, she would be very grateful. Please reach out to Rev. Anna Grace Claunch or to Betty Roodal in our church office with any recommendations.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of LAC member Eleanor McNamara. We offer prayers for Eleanor and for her loved ones at this difficult time.

Eleanor McNamara

June 7, 1950 - July 12, 2026

Eleanor McNamara of Larchmont, New York, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter. Eleanor lived a life marked by compassion and devotion to her family and friends. She was known for her generosity, sharp wit, and ability to make everyone around her feel important.

Aside from family, her greatest joy was volunteering. She spent many hours at Burke Rehabilitation Center, assisting patients and their families, but it was her time spent supporting the veterans in the Honor Flight Network (www.hvhonorflight.com) that made her the most proud.

Eleanor is survived by her sister, Clare Majorossy, and eight nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Gertrude McNamara, her sister, Ann Nelson, and her brothers, Thomas, George, and Arthur McNamara.

Eleanor's kindness, warmth, and the laughter she shared will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Her memory will bring a smile to all who had the privilege of knowing her.

The family will host a celebration of Eleanor’s life at a later date. Donations in her memory can be made to www.hvhonorflight.com

A Message from Pastor Stark

Dear Friends at Larchmont Avenue Presbyterian Church,

Thank you so much for the wonderful welcome you gave to my family and me during the pulpit exchange between Peter and myself.

Liz, Douglas, Fergus and I had a truly memorable time, from exploring the Jersey Shore to the coastal beauty of Maine and the hustle and bustle of New York. We also enjoyed simply relaxing in Larchmont- playing a bit of pickleball at Flint Park and getting our favourite treats at Trader Joes.

Your warmth, generosity, kind gifts and genuine fellowship made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. Ernest picked us up with ease and a lovely meal was delivered to us by Emily and Susan and that set the tone for our stay!

I really enjoyed journeying through the book of Ruth with you. God’s word is full of riches! It is wonderful to realise that whilst we are churches separated by an ocean we are still wonderfully united in Christ.

We leave with grateful hearts, praying that God will continue to bless you as a church.

With every blessing,

Rev. Calum Stark

Connecting with Pastor Stark

We all enjoyed having the Stark's with us for the month of July, and many in the congregation have asked how to keep in touch with his worship services and radio show when he returns to Scotland.

He shared this with us:

Radio show access can be found by searching for - Avondale radio - once in, click on listen again/and then choose “crossbeats.” In the show for July 26, there is a chat about their time in Larchmont.

If anyone would like to see services from Scotland, access is @YouTube. Search for Avendale (note that it is spelled differently from the radio station) and Drumclog.

CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS

COMPASSION CAMP NEEDS YOU!

Compassion Camp is one of the most meaningful ministries we offer to the community, and we need your help! The success of camp, and our ability to provide a safe, welcoming, and meaningful experience for every child depends on the support of our congregation. If you have any availability during the week of 8/17--8/20, WE NEED YOU!

PRESCHOOL TO

YOUNG ADULT

BOOK DONATIONS ARE NEEDED!

Have you seen our Little Lending Library on the corner of Forest Park and Wendt Avenues?

The "take one/leave one" library has been operating for about 8 months now and seems to be a neighborhood favorite. As we gear up for Fall, we are looking for book donations. Do you have gently used preschool to young adult books you'd like to donate? We'd love to have them! You can simply drop them in Russell Hall, and we will collect them. PLEASE no magazines, coloring books, or adult books (fiction or nonfiction).

Special thanks again to Patty Towle for the wonderful library design!
