WORLD COMMUNION SUNDAY:
OCTOBER 4
World Communion Sunday, a tradition that began in 1936 and was endorsed by the National Council of Churches in 1940, promotes Christian unity and ecumenical cooperation between several Christian denominations.
The first Sunday in October is designated as World Communion Sunday, which celebrates our oneness in Christ with all our brothers and sisters around the world. Paul tells us that we are to “discern the body” when we partake of Holy Communion, mindful that we note our relationship to all our brothers and sisters in Christ in the celebration.
It is appropriate that World Communion Sunday is also a time when we receive the annual Peace and Global Witness Offering as a way of continuing the ancient Christian practice of sharing what we have with sisters and brothers in need.
Shared Mission allows hope and healing as it transforms lives across our country and around the world through the ministries of the Presbyterian Church(USA}. Shared Mission supports the whole mission of the church, and it allows the church to respond quickly to current issues and situations. For example, Shared Mission gifts support ministries with new immigrant communities.
25% Of the offering stays with local congregations, and 25% with organizations that unite congregations to support peacemaking in their regions. The remaining 50% is remitted to the Presbyterian Mission Agency of PC{USA).
For your contributions, please use the blue mission envelope in the pews. Or, checks can be marked Peace/Global Witness and sent to the Church Office.
OUT OF CHAOS, HOPE.
