Welcome to our 2013 FTI WEF E-Newsletter. In this weekly newsletter, you'll find a variety of information, horse show updates, competition wrap-ups, sponsor offers, exhibitor alerts, and more!

 

The first week of the FTI WEF was sponsored by The Mar-a-Lago Club. Week two, sponsored by Wellington Equestrian Realty, is on January 16-20. The 2013 FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival has 12 weeks from January 9-March 31, 2013, and they will be awarding almost $7 million in prize money through the circuit.

Week 2

 

New River Fine Art Opening

- The International Club will now be home to some extraordinary works of art. Lisa Burgess and New River Fine Art will be bringing contemporary paintings, sculptures, and other unique pieces of art to the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center this year. Aside from just displaying art, New River Fine Art's experienced consultants will be able to provide guidance and suggestions to interested buyers. There will also be guest appearances by world renowned artists throughout the twelve weeks of FTI WEF, including a "Meet the Artist" reception at the International Club Foyer and Shoppes on Saturday, January 19, from 5:30-9:00 p.m. with Ramon Vilanova.

 

FTI WEF Ride & Learn

presented by Palm Beach Riding Academy- On Thursday, January 15, Charlie Moorcroft will give a mounted riding clinic, "Road to the Pony Finals: sponsored by Deux Chevaux. The session begins at 3:00pm and is priced at $100.00 per horse/rider combination. The session for Thursday, January 22, is with grand prix rider Candice King and sponsored by Neue Schule Bits on "The Efficient Jumper Ride." FTI WEF Lunch & Learn

- On Thursday, January 17th Mary Ann Simonds will be coming to the grounds to conduct a seminar on "Stress Management for Horse and Rider" sponsored by Equestrian Sport Productions. This will be the first session of the Lunch & Learn series presented by Copy and Print Depot at Office Depot�. Lunch will be provided and there will be a chance to win exciting prizes. Admission for riders is free for riders, trainers and owners. The session begins at 11:30am and runs until 1:00pm in the Wellington Club.

 

Tiki Hut Happy Hour

- If you missed last week's Happy Hour, be sure to join us this week! The fun will begin at 1:00pm, Thursday afternoon and continue until the completion of the $33,000 Ruby et Violette WEF Challenge Round 2. Stop by, enjoy a beverage, and watch the competition from one of the best seats on the grounds.

 

Exhibitor Block Party at Vendor Row

- Enjoy live music from The Jeff Harding Band, shop the sales, and celebrate the start of another season of FTI WEF. There will be raffles to enter and prizes to win so don't miss out. The party will be held on Saturday, January 19th from 2:00pm-6:00pm.

 

$50,000 Wellington Equestrian Reality Grand Prix FEI CSI 2*-

After the Exhibitor Block Party, join us at an exciting Saturday Night Lights Grand Prix. Watch world-renounced riders compete for a chance to qualify for the $500,000 FTI Consulting Finale Grand Prix FEI CSI 5*, week 12 of the FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival. There will be a live band, kid's activities, and endless entertainment.

Horse Show Wrap-Up

Week 1

 

Jumper Results:  
Wednesday through Sunday

 

 

Shane Sweetnam won the $8,000 G&C Farm 1.45m speed class aboard Sweet Oak Farm's Solerina and then went on to take top honors in the $6,000 Spy Coast Farm 1.40m jump-off class aboard Spy Coast Farm, LLC's Eregast Van't Kiezelhof on Wednesday. Laura Chapot also had a win on day one riding Mary Chapot's Zealous in the $6,000 Spy Coast Farm 1.40m Speed Challenge.


Brazil's Rodrigo Pessoa and HH Let's Fly galloped to victory in the $30,000 Ruby et Violette WEF Challenge Cup Round 1.  

 

Peter Wylde (USA) and The Wannahave Group's Sandor De La Pomme finished second with their time of 36.392 seconds. Third went to Shane Sweetnam (IRL) aboard Spy Coast Farm, LLC's Siri with a time of 36.591 seconds. Luis Larrazabal (VEN) and Anabel Simon's G&C Sacramento placed fourth with their time of 36.664 seconds.


Week one continued on Friday with a win for New York's Georgina Bloomberg and South Street in the $1,500 Adequan 7-Year-Old Young Jumper Championship. Out of 35 competitors, ten entries went clear to jump-off, and Bloomberg and South Street had the fastest of eight double clear rounds in a time of 31.818 seconds. Laura Chapot finished second aboard Mary Chapot's Castellana with a jump-off time of 32.829 seconds. Marilyn Little and Raylyn Farms, Inc.'s Nightfire 25 were third in 33.224 seconds.

 

Other highlight classes in the International Arena on Friday included the $6,000 Spy Coast Farm 1.40m jump-off and speed classes. The jump-off class was won by Laura Kraut and Wish, owned by Stone Hill Farm. The speed class saw a win for Darragh Kenny aboard Cavallo Farms, LLC's Gucci.


Over 3,500 fans packed the stands at the PBIEC on the opening Saturday night to watch the women beat the men for the fifth year in a row in the $55,000 Nespresso Battle of the Sexes. It was the closest race yet in the three-phase competition between the male and female teams, but the ladies pulled out another victory in the end with a final score of 24-20. 

 

The women's team was captained by Georgina Bloomberg and also included riders Laura Kraut, Margie Engle, Marilyn Little, Maggie Bracco, Nicole Bellissimo, Debbie Stephens, Brianne Goutal, Candice King, and Schuyler Riley.

 

Charlie Jayne led the men's team, which included riders Shane Sweetnam, Richie Moloney, Daniel Bluman, Luis Larrazabal, Ramiro Quintana, Steve Schaefer, Darragh Kenny, Alex Granato, and Nick Skelton.

 

In addition to the winning prize money, a few special awards were presented this evening. Darragh Kenny won a gift certificate from The Brazilian Court Hotel and Beach Club for the overall best time in both the speed and match race rounds aboard his mount Vanotrouska.

 

A $1,000 prize was also to be awarded to the rider that had the most clear rounds in the six-bar competition. When Skelton, Bloomberg, and King all cleared the final round and decided not to continue any further, the money was split between all three riders.


The $25,000 Suncast� 1.50m Championship Jumper Classic was held in the International Arena in the afternoon with a win for McLain Ward riding Ilan Ferder and Missy Clark's Zhum CW. In a class of 18 entries, nine jumped the first round course without fault to jump off, and Ward and Zhum CW completed the fastest double clear round in 38.663 seconds.

 

In the International Arena on Sunday, Michael Hughes and Christina Fried's MacArthur won the morning's $10,000 Griffis Group SJHOF High Junior Jumper Classic. The $10,000 Animo USA Medium Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic saw a win for Santiago Diaz and Quel Pacha.

 

The second week of competition at the 2013 FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival (FTI WEF), sponsored by The Mar-a-Lago Club, concluded on Sunday afternoon with a win for Charlie Jacobs (USA) and CMJ Sporthorse LLC's Flaming Star in the $30,000 Mar-a-Lago Club Grand Prix.


Jumping a course set by Eric Hasbrouck, 46 horse and rider combinations contested Sunday's class. Thirteen entries jumped clear to advance to the jump-off, and 10 went double clear. The fastest of those clear jump-off rounds belonged to Charlie Jacobs and Flaming Star in a time of 37.163 seconds.


Alvaro de Miranda (BRA) and RD Jumping Higher, Ltda.'s Show Show finished second stopping the clock in 37.413 seconds. Reed Kessler (USA) and Ligist were third with a time of 37.708 seconds.

Quotable and Holly Orlando jumped their way to championship honors in the Sanctuary Green Conformation Hunters during the opening week of the FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival (FTI WEF). The seven-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding, owned by David Glefke and Dr. and Mrs. Kenneth Garber, handily won the division after strong performances during both days of the division's competition. Quotable and Orlando won the model and placed first and third over fences on day one. They clinched the championship after placing first and second in Thursday's over fences classes. 

 

Reserve honors went to Ainsley Sadlo's Balin, ridden by Havens Schatt. Schatt and Balin placed second and third in yesterday's over fences classes. They went on to win the Hunter Stakes round during Thursday's competition and pinned third in Thursday's second over fences class.


Lansing and Jeanine Cash had a clean sweep of the Adult Amateur 36-50 division during week one of the FTI WEF. The ten-year-old Holsteiner gelding, owned by Richard Schechter and trained by Gary Duffy, was unbeatable both days of competition, taking home the blue for every over fences class as well as the under saddle.

 

Joe Maskrey's Winter Rose, ridden by Lynn Seithel, earned reserve honors after delivering solid over fences trips during the first and second days of the division. Winter Rose and Seithel placed second and third over fences and sixth under saddle on day one of competition. Then, the pair jumped to reserve champion with fifth and third ribbons.

 

Parkland and Lillie Keenan received championship honors in the Small Junior 16-17 Hunters during the first weekend of competition at the FTI WEF. The eight-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding, owned by Jennifer Gates and trained by Gerardo Escalara, placed first and second over fences on day one of competition. Keenan rode Parkland to first and second over fences during day two, tying with Lyle and Taylor Sutton going into the under saddle. Parkland and Keenan placed second under saddle, earning them the division championship.


Lyle and Sutton placed fourth under saddle to pick up the reserve championship prize for the division. The pair was edged out by Parkland and Keenan after strong jumping performances earned them first and second place ribbons during day two. The pair was also first and second in day one's over fences classes, jockeying for first place with Keenan and her mount.

 

Owner/Rider championship honors were also awarded at the end of the division. The award is designed to promote junior riders owning and riding their own horses. Genuine and Cloe Hymowitz took home the prize after solid jumping rounds and finishing third under saddle.


Jessica Stitt took home both champion and reserve champion prizes with her geldings On the Hour and Taken in the FarmVet Amateur/Owner 3'3" 18-35 division on Sunday. Competition for the division wrapped up on the last day of week one of the FTI WEF in the Equine Tack and Nutritionals Ring 6. On day one of competition for the division, Stitt and On the Hour placed first and seventh over fences and third under saddle. The pair secured the championship title on day two, jumping to seventh and first places.

 

Stitt and Taken were named reserve champion after strong over fences trips on day two of the division. Stitt piloted her mount to first and second places on day two after placing second over fences and fifth under saddle on day one.   

Stitt purchased On the Hour, a twelve-year-old dark bay Warmblood, last year and has already had a successful show career with him. The duo was Reserve Circuit Champion at the FTI WEF 2012 in the Horseware Ireland Adult Hunter 3'3" division. Holly Orlando also rode On the Hour to the Second Year Green Championship earlier in week one of the FTI WEF 2013.
