Last week’s issue Talked Turkey about Third-Party Administrators’ (TPA) competitive pressures and why progressive practices should capitalize on their own competitive advantages. To successfully counteract culprits of marketplace confusion, admirable professionals empathetically consider a multitude of chronic challenges which wide swathes of healthcare consumers live with. For too many, getting quality care requires what feels like climbing a series of steep steps.

Increase proportion of adults whose health care providers involved them in decisions as much as they wanted, summarized as


“Evidence shows that most people want to participate in making decisions about their health. Shared decision-making — when people and their health care providers work together to make decisions — can lead to higher patient satisfaction and better health outcomes. Interventions focused on teaching health care providers how to develop collaborative relationships and use decision aids with patients can help facilitate shared decision-making.”

Decrease proportion of adults who report poor communication with their health care provider, summarized as:


“Good communication between health care providers and patients is part of high-quality care, but many people have trouble talking with their health care providers. Strategies to improve communication between health care providers and patients can lead to better prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and self-management of diseases.”
