Continuing the Momentum
Fall is officially here, and with it comes a busy final stretch of the year. As we look back on the past several months, we’re grateful for the many opportunities our team has had to work alongside clients and partners on projects throughout the Carolinas and across the Southeast.
From surveying and subsurface utility engineering to 3D laser scanning, we’re proud to play a part in helping projects move from planning to progress. Thank you to our clients and partners for your continued trust in GEL Solutions. We look forward to a productive fall and finishing 2026 strong.

| | It was great seeing you at these industry events! | | |
In August, GEL Solutions attended the SASHTO 2026 Annual Meeting in Greenville, SC. The annual meeting brought together transportation professionals from across the Southeast, providing a great opportunity to connect with industry colleagues, exchange ideas, and stay engaged with the projects and priorities shaping transportation throughout the region.
In September, we were proud to sponsor and exhibit at the ACEC/NC-NCDOT Joint Transportation Conference in Raleigh, NC. Held September 21–22, the conference provided another valuable opportunity to connect with clients, colleagues, and transportation professionals while sharing how GEL Solutions’ surveying, subsurface utility engineering, and 3D laser scanning services support transportation and infrastructure projects throughout the Carolinas and Southeast.
Thank you to everyone who connected with us at these events. We always appreciate the opportunity to catch up with familiar faces, make new connections, and stay involved in the transportation community.

Safety is an essential part of every project at GEL Solutions, particularly when our teams are working in and around active roadways and transportation corridors. From proper signage and traffic awareness to wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), our field crews take care to create a safe and visible work environment for both our employees and the traveling public.
As safety continues to be a key priority for our transportation clients, our team remains committed to doing its part by planning ahead, following project requirements, and paying attention to the details that help keep field operations safe. Proper PPE, appropriate signage, and a safety-first mindset are part of how we approach the job every day.
| | Giving Back Through Community Impact Week | |
Each year, employees across the GEL companies come together for Community Impact Week, an annual tradition supporting our longstanding partnership with Trident United Way. Through a variety of activities, fundraising efforts, and opportunities to give back, the week brings our teams together around a shared commitment to supporting the communities where we live and work
This October, we’re looking forward to continuing that tradition and supporting Trident United Way and its work to strengthen families and communities throughout the Charleston area and surrounding South Carolina Lowcountry, home to GEL’s corporate headquarters. We’re proud of the generosity and community spirit our employees bring to this effort year after year.

From Compass and Chain to GPS:
The Evolution of Land Surveying
| | |
Land surveying has come a long way from the days of hand-drawn deeds, compass bearings, and boundary descriptions based on trees, pastures, and neighboring properties. A recent Valley News article takes an interesting look back at how surveying practices have evolved over the centuries, from early colonial land grants and informal property descriptions to today’s highly technical profession.
The article explores how increasing development, subdivision requirements, professional licensing, and advances in technology have transformed the field. Modern surveyors now rely on tools such as GPS and CAD, but the profession still requires something that technology alone can’t replace: careful research and interpretation of historical property records to determine where boundaries actually belong.
Take a look back at the evolution of land surveying and how the profession continues to change.
