Hopefully you have started hearing and learning about the City of Miami Beach Neighborhood Improvement Projects that include the new stormwater system and road-raising plans, as well as new sewer and lighting improvements.
City-wide, Miami Beach is spending approx. $500M on new infrastructure to keep us dry in the face of sea level rise. The bigger pipes, mechanical pumps and higher streets help protect our homes and our nest eggs.
Here are 4 Steps you can take now to engage and better understand right-of-way contruction while considering your own personal property and individual needs.
1. Get an Elevation Certificate for your home. Prepared by a professional surveyor, this document will describe the elevation of your home's finished floor. Expect to pay around $125 for your report, which is also useful when obtaining flood insurance.
2. Use t
he City of Miami Beach's new Adaptation Calculator - armed with your elevation certificate, you can use this innovative proprietary web tool to find out the actual difference
in inches between the future road elevation in comparison to your driveway and your home's finished floor elevation. Learn how to use the tool and see a sample output report below.
3. Attend one of the June Open House sessions to get your questions answered by the experts! See the schedule for the 4 sessions below, you can attend any / all of them.
4. Call to schedule your Home Site Visit with the City Engineer. Call 305-604-7080 to reach City of Miami Beach Public Works and sign up to have staff meet you at your home to answer your personalized questions and address your concerns.
