This Sunday, This Week
10th Sunday after Pentecost
Today is the first of five Sundays with gospel readings from John 6, the first four of which focus on Jesus as bread of life. Today Jesus feeds thousands of people with five loaves and two fish. What we have, what we bring to Jesus' table seems like it is not nearly enough to meet all the needs we see around us. But it is not the adequacy of our supplies or our skills that finally makes the difference: it is the power of Jesus working in the littlest and least to transform this world into the world God desires, a world where all the hungry are satisfied.
READINGS for this SUNDAY:
Give Me That Old Time Religion!
Old Time Gospel Sunday is back! July 29 with one service only, 10:30 a.m.

Join us for an outside worship service where we'll be praising the Lord, hearing the word,
and singing about that old time religion that has something to share with the world to this very day!

All are welcome! All are invited! Bring your lawn chair, your tent, your umbrella, and your tappin' toes, 'cause after this worship, you'll know you've been to church!

Thank yo to all who responded to the survey. The music has been picked and we look forward to sharing this special time with you as we sing and worship together.

Stay afterwards for our Church Picnic and Ice Cream Social!
After the Old Time Gospel Service on July 29 at 10:30 a.m. (ONE SERVICE ONLY), we will have our Annual Picnic and Ice Cream Social. Everyone is invited to bring a side dish to share . Hot dogs, buns, condiments, drinks and paper products will be provided. Sign up in the Narthex!

Ice cream of any kind is welcome. There are ice cream makers at the church if you need to borrow one. You may sign up in the Narthex to bring toppings for the ice cream as well as your side dishes for the picnic. We hope to see you at this fun occasion!
Tag Sale Update
Hello! As your church council president, I had the privilege of meeting with the Tag Sale team to thank them for their countless hours of service and to obtain their feedback regarding the Tag Sale, the use of funds from the Tag Sale and the future of this ministry. This year’s Tag Sale garnered $8,501.71 in sales. There was $1,244.87 in expenses. Council tithed $850.00 to the Thanksgiving In-Gathering. The remaining funds after expenses will be split evenly between our general fund ($3,203.42) and outreach funds. The four outreach funds designated by the Tag Sale team and approved by council are: The Bed Brigade, Thanksgiving In-Gathering, Loaves and Fish with the final portion supporting camperships for our Advent campers. Each ministry will receive $800.85. The Tag Team wanted their efforts to support outreach ministries that have a personal impact on people’s lives.
Thanks so much to the team and especially to Carl Lahman for his leadership.  The Tag Sale has consistently supported our general fund and outreach funds, especially the Thanksgiving In-Gathering during their many years of service. At this time, the team is going to take a one-year hiatus. The Tag Sale team wants the membership of Advent to assess the future of this ministry, its purpose, and the time involved in this effort. If this particular ministry is going to move forward, there will need to be younger volunteers, streamlining of donation processing and new leadership.  We will all see what the future holds!  Holly Cronau
Many Thanks!!!
Special Thanks to all who brought in snack ingredients for VBS this past week. The snacks ere a big hit, and your contributions really made a difference. Thanks, again. for your support.

Isabel's Quilters
Information Meeting
We are hoping to continue the ministry to provide quilts to the Lutheran World Relief project that Isabel Leonard started and Jeni Lahman continued leadership for the group. There will be two information meetings. One will be held on Tuesday, September 4 at 9:30 am in the Fellowship Hall at Advent and the other will be on Saturday, September 8 in the Music office at Advent. Won’t you join us to learn how you can participate? There are lots of ways to be involved from cutting squares, piecing quilts, helping to assembling to prepare for final stitching, and knotting quilts. Men, women, teens, could be involved. For information, contact Norma Pitts, 614-457-8965 or Barb Murphy at 614-457-9920.

Loaves and Fish Ministry
The Loaves and Fish Ministry is looking for volunteers to help cook, serve or both! People are encouraged to join a team that only serves two times a year. This is a wonderful outreach and it is also a great fellowship time with other members of Advent. If you are interested or if you have questions, please contact Stacy Bolzenius at 614-537-2801.
