September News and Updates from the Office of Alumnae Relations
Letter from the President

Dear Alumna,

Catholic High's doors opened on August 30, 2021 for the start of the 2021-2022 school year! We were excited to welcome our students back to Catholic High through our brand new student entrance that includes a beautiful green canopy. Our students were also happy to see our brand new picnic tables on the campus, donated by many alumnae like yourself!

We are looking forward to seeing you at the many events we have planned this fall. This Saturday, we are hosting our 2nd annual Homecoming Fall Festival outside on our Western Campus from 1:00 - 4:00 PM. We are also excited to bring back our Alumnae Luncheons throughout the year. Catholic High invites our alumnae living in the Ocean City and Delaware areas to attend our Ocean City Luncheon on October 14 at Seacrets from 12:00 - 3:00 PM. Then in November, Catholic High celebrates the Roaring 20's at our annual Gala from 6:00 - 11:00 PM at the Boumi Shrine Center. I hope you will attend one or more of these exciting events!

As we begin this school year unlike any other, it fills me with pride as a Daughter of Catholic High to watch our students walk through the same halls as we did for four years, and emerge as empowered young women! In this issue of the Alumnae Monthly Update, please enjoy reading about the great traditions that continue at Catholic High and reflect on the many events that took place during September. I hope to see you in the coming months!

Lux Tua Luceat,
Barbara D. Nazelrod, Ph.D. '68
President

Hello Day in 1989!
Hello Day surely has evolved over the years! When the tradition first began decades ago, it was called Big Sister Little Sister Day, and Freshmen and Seniors enjoyed breakfast together in the Dining Hall. Through the years, Freshmen received baby themed gifts from their Big Sisters. These were replaced by more appropriate items and Catholic High themed gifts which are given today.

Hello Day remains a fan favorite tradition! As done in the past, Catholic High continues to conclude the day with funny and enjoyable Hello Day skits performed by our students!

Sundae Mondays
Thanks to our alumnae, benefactors, and friends of Catholic High who sponsored a Sundae Monday, we are able to provide our students with ice cream sundaes every Monday of the school year!

The idea of Sundae Mondays originated from Dr. Nazelrod’s family tradition of going out for ice cream sundaes with her mom every Monday after school.
80th Campaign Salute to Excellence
On September 10, the Catholic High community celebrated our commitment to excellence at the Salute to Excellence Assembly and President's Reception! Our amazing Chamber Winds, Advanced Choir, new Marching Band, and new Dance Company performed at the event.

At the President's Reception, we honored Catholic High's biggest cheerleader and President, Dr. Barbara D. Nazelrod, by naming the Catholic High Gallery in her honor. The 2021-22 school year marks the 21st year of Dr. Nazelrod's presidency, making her the longest-tenured head of any secondary school in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. In a recently conducted sit-down interview, Dr. Nazelrod discussed her life-long relationship with Catholic High, as well as her hopes and plans for the school as it enters its 83rd year of service.

Hello Day 2021
On September 24, the Catholic High community celebrated our traditional Hello Day to welcome Freshmen and transfer students! Seniors greeted the Freshmen and Cub Buddies in the morning with matching shirts to wear throughout the day. At lunch, Seniors gave baskets filled with candy and gifts to their Freshmen and Cub Buddies. At the end of the day, laughter filled the auditorium as Student Council and Faculty members put on creative skits for the school community!
