Happy Pride Month from your local Alzheimer Society!

This month, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and diversity of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Pride is a time to recognize the importance of inclusion, respect, and creating spaces where everyone feels seen, valued, and supported.

At the Alzheimer Society, we are committed to fostering a welcoming environment for all individuals living with dementia, their care partners, volunteers, staff, and community members. Every person deserves compassionate care and the opportunity to be their authentic self.

As we celebrate Pride Month, we honour the contributions, experiences, and stories of 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and reaffirm our commitment to equity, dignity, and belonging.

Together, we can build a more inclusive community where everyone feels at home!

June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada, a time to recognize the rich history, heritage, resilience and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis.

Did you know? Dementia is a growing public health issue for Indigenous people in Canada. Canada’s first national dementia strategy, A Dementia Strategy for Canada: Together We Aspire, identified that Indigenous Peoples are a population at higher risk of developing dementia (Public Health Agency of Canada, 2019). In addition to research indicating higher rates of dementia among Indigenous populations compared to the general public, Indigenous people also face challenges accessing health-care services and receiving supports, and they are impacted by many social determinants of dementia.

To learn more about some of the issues related to dementia in Indigenous populations and read estimates for dementia in Indigenous people in Canada in the Landmark Study 2, chapter 2, here: https://alzheimer.ca/ns/sites/ns/files/documents/CHAPTER 2_ASC_People_REPORT2_13680_ENG_WEB-FINAL %281%29.pdf
