SAVI: The Stewardship of Antimicrobials
by Veterinarians Initiative
SAVI Updates
The following updates provide a snapshot of whom
the SAVI team has been working with and what we
have been working on.
With the assistance of a team of dedicated veterinary Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), SAVI has completed updates and revisions to the CVMA Guidelines for Veterinary Antimicrobial Use for beef, dairy, poultry, small ruminants, swine and the canine and feline companion animal species.
The Guidelines are intended to be a decision-support tool for veterinarians and the updated iterations will be rolled out in upcoming weeks and months on both the existing CVMA online platform as well as on the upcoming veterinary iteration of the Spectrum app We will advise the veterinary community when these revised resources are available.
With support from volunteer veterinary clinic participants, SAVI has been actively developing data analysis and reporting tools in the form of dynamic dashboards that will allow veterinary data providers to review their ongoing antimicrobial prescription practices from a variety of perspectives and generate reports in a confidential and anonymized manner.
Dr. Shane Renwick and the SAVI project team participated via abstract presentation in the One Health Antimicrobial Stewardship Conference, held from March 10 to 12, and hosted by the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association (ABVMA) with funding support from Alberta Agriculture and Forestry.
This three-day event comprised of speakers, panel discussions and presentations focused on issues related to antimicrobial stewardship from human health, animal health, environmental health and sociological perspectives. More information on the event can be found at:
