Difficult Time

April is National Minority Health Month, a timely reminder that health disparities continue to impact many communities. Research from KFF, a nonprofit health policy organization, reveals stark inequities: Hispanic, Native American, and Black households face roughly twice the rate of food insecurity compared to their White counterparts. The gap widens further when it comes to preventive care. In the 2023-2024 flu season, about 6/10 Hispanic, Native American, and Black adults remained unvaccinated, compared to fewer than half of White adults (Read about our recent Health Fair in the article below to learn more about how we're working to further close these gaps).
As federal assistance programs shrink, families in our community are experiencing real hardship. When resources run thin, everyday essentials like hygiene products, food, and household supplies quickly become luxuries many can't afford. Your donations directly support Santa Maria's ability to provide practical relief to families navigating these challenges.
We're seeking the following items:
- Pads and tampons
- Shampoo and conditioner
- Body wash or soap
- Deodorant
- Toothpaste and toothbrushes
- Laundry soap and dish soap
- Paper towels and toilet paper
- Shelf-stable food
- Storage containers

Bringing Care Closer
to the Community

Santa Maria’s recent Health Fair brought the community together for a day filled with care, connection, and support in Greater Price Hill. Neighbors had the chance to meet medical service providers, learn about helpful resources, and take part in free screenings and wellness activities, while partner organizations also strengthened their connections with one another. In just two hours, over 100 community members attended. 100 screenings were completed, including vision checks, hearing and balance screenings, mammograms, hands-only CPR training, blood pressure checks, and exercise activities.
We’re grateful to our sponsors, The Academy of Medicine and Cincy-Cinco, and to our Health Fair providing partners, volunteers, and staff whose generosity, time, and compassion made the event possible and helped bring important care and encouragement to the community.
