Curbside Collection Calendar

Lantzville Fire Department Begins Training at New Joint Training Facility

Alongside the Regional District of Nanaimo and the Nanoose Fire Department, the Lantzville Fire Department recently celebrated the opening of their joint training facility located at Nanoose Bay Firehall.

The new facility is poised to improve fire fighting training in the region by providing practice scenarios that mimic real life situations. The two-storey structure includes multiple rooms, windows, stairs, and different apparatus that can be reconfigured to create a variety of emergency simulations.

The Regional District of Nanaimo (including Area E, Nanoose) and the District of Lantzville participate in a Mutual Aid Agreement for fire support services with many benefits to sharing a training site. The Lantzville Fire Department is particularly excited about the opportunity to collaborate with neighboring fire fighters in joint training exercises where they can work together to enhance their skills. After only a couple of weeks using the facility, the teamwork and camaraderie is evident between the fire departments.

Rumming Road Culvert Replacement Underway

Hudson Procter Contracting Ltd. is completing the replacement of the culvert on Rumming Road from July 20 to August 15, 2026.

Working hours will run from 7:00am to 7:00pm, Monday through Friday. Occasionally, work may extend beyond theses hours if required to safely complete critical construction activities or maintain the project schedule.

During construction, drivers in the area may experience temporary traffic delays, construction noise, dust, and short-term access interruptions. Traffic control personnel and signage will be in place as required, and every effort will be made to minimize disruptions.

Second Quarter Utility Bills - Due August 4, 2026

Your second quarter utility bill which includes usage for April, May, and June was mailed in early July and is due Tuesday, August 4.

You may notice a rate increase that took effect on April 1, 2026 as reflected in Bylaw 427. This includes a 5% increase in water user rates, 3% increase in sewer rates, and an approximately 5% increase in RDN rates for garbage, recycling and food waste collection. 

2027 Property Tax Prepayment Plan Available

Property owners wishing to prepay their 2027 property taxes may register for the District of Lantzville's Property Tax Prepayment Plan which is paid over 10 months. Tax prepayments are debited on the 10th day of each month from August 2026 through to May 2027. No prepayments are withdrawn in June and July.

Upon registration, you have the option of paying a calculated monthly amount based on the previous year's taxes or a fixed monthly payment that is less. Participants in the prepayment plan are automatically renewed each year unless the agreement is terminated in writing by the property owner.

Recreation Opportunities

• Koffee Klub is held at the Lantzville Legion every Thursday morning, 10:00-11:30am. Everyone is welcome! Coffee and treat for a toonie.
• Save the Date! Minetown Days at Huddlestone Park is booked for Saturday, September 12.

City of Nanaimo

• The Fall and Winter Activity Guide comes out on Friday, August 7. Registrations for aquatics begins on Wednesday, August 12, and Wednesday, August 19, for all other programs.
• Concerts in the Park wind down for another season in August. Join us for concerts on August 7, 12, 21 and 27. The complete schedule and details about the performers can be found here: Concert in the Park series
• Nanaimo Aquatic Centre is closed for its annual maintenance until October 7. During the shutdown, a new water feature will be installed, HVAC system will be replaced and the lobby area will be upgraded. During the shutdown, swim at Beban Pool or at Westwood Lake daily from 1200-530pm where lifeguards are on duty.
• Family Fun Night, "End of Summer Splash" will be held at Westwood Lake Park on Thursday, August 27, 4-7pm. There will be games, community booths, live entertainment, and the Water Safety Education Team will be there to provide information on swimming lessons and water safety. This event is free for the whole family.

Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN)

• Ravensong Aquatic Center in Qualicum Beach will be closed for annual maintenance on August 22, and will re-open on September 13.
• RDN's fall swim lessons, programs, fitness classes and more will be viewable online starting August 14 with registration opening August 18 at 8am. Subscribe to REC Connect and you will receive an email as soon as the next season of lessons and programs are ready to view online.
• The RDN offers a variety of fitness classes for $7 to $10 a session. Ongoing, pro-rated registration is available if space allows. Most of the fitness classes also offer a drop-in option for $9 to $12 a session. Pick-up your drop-in pass today at Ravensong Aquatic Centre or Oceanside Place Arena. Here is the schedule.

In preparation for the Fall 2026 Local General Election, please make sure you are registered and your home address is current on the Provincial Voter's List. Your primary residential address determines the municipality and school district race where you can cast a vote.

New registrations and voter registration updates made after August 18, 2026, will not be included in the advance voter registration list provided to the District of Lantzville.

Accepting Applications for Poll Worker Positions

The District of Lantzville is seeking candidates to work the 2026 General Local Election at our Costin Hall polling site in October.

It is not too late to submit your Statement of Interest Application. Please read the job descriptions before applying. All applications will be kept on file and considered as needed.

Are You Interested in Running for District of Lantzville Council? Now is Your Opportunity!

The District of Lantzville will publish its Notice of Nomination Period for the 2026 General Local Election on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, and on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, in the Nanaimo News Bulletin. The Notice will also be on our website at lantzville.ca along with the nomination documents you must submit.

Nomination documents can only be filed with the Chief Election Officer during the nomination period which opens on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 9:00am and closes on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 4:00pm. Early or late nomination documents cannot be accepted.

Good Neighbours Clean Up After

Their Horses and Pets

Residents are reminded that a safe and respectful use of our public spaces is required, including adherence to the Good Neighbour Bylaw which prohibits disposal of waste throughout the District.

Good Neighbour Bylaw No. 200 states: "No person shall deposit, leave, bury or throw rubbish, advertisements or other litter anywhere within the District, including without limitation wooded areas and beaches, except in a container designated for that purpose." The definition of rubbish includes "all manner of discarded substances including decaying or non-decaying solid and semi-solid wastes."



Waste, including horse, dog, and yard waste, should be properly disposed of in a safe and responsible manner. Thank you!

Woodlot Tour Held

On Friday, January 30, 2026, John and Dave Gregson (Woodlot licensees), and Erik Holbek (Registered Professional Forester, RFP), hosted a well-attended and informative tour of Woodlot #W1475. Approximately 40 local residents joined the tour, and John, Dave, and Erik led the group around some of the trails, offering insight on responsible forestry, showing examples of reforestation areas, and identifying upcoming areas to be harvested along the path leading off Stone Road and another area further into the Woodlot; these cuts will begin no sooner than in the Fall of this year.

The tour was educational and very well-received by the group. John answered questions and shared information on the forestry sector, responsible harvesting and reforestation techniques, fire safety, and encouraged responsible access to this crown land, while respecting the natural environment to which we have access on our doorsteps.

A huge thank you to John and his team for organizing this successful event.

Stage 4 Watering Restrictions in Effect

Effective June 17, 2026, outdoor water conservation measures increased to Stage 4. All indications are that Vancouver Island is dealing with a heightened risk of drought as we move into Summer 2026.

Under Stage 4 , outdoor watering is restricted as follows:

• Lawn watering, sprinklers, and washing vehicles is not permitted.
• Hand watering of trees, shrubs and vegetables, only between 7am - 10am, or between 7pm - 10pm.
• Hand watering vegetable gardens and fruit trees are exempt from these restrictions; however, residents are advised to do this in early morning or the evening.
• No new lawn permits will be issued.

Please do your part to proactively conserve water. The District of Lantzville will be monitoring watering restrictions and working with residents to ensure compliance.
