Starting Out Strong - Resources to Help You Succeed
Are you in a class that you think may be challenging? If so, there are numerous resources to help you succeed. For example, you can receive free help with writing, math, statistics and chemistry courses. For information on tutoring in these and other areas, as well as many additional university resources that are here to support you throughout your enrollment, visit our resources web page (bookmark this page). For academic support and tutoring resources, click on that heading.
Writing Help
Need help with a writing assignment? The Writing Center, part of the Center for the Study and Teaching of Writing (CSTW), offers free help at any stage of the writing process. They can help you with research papers, lab reports, STEP proposals, team projects and more. Students may work with a trained consultant by appointment, on a walk-in basis, or through online sessions. The Center also maintains resources to help you with common writing challenges from constructing a thesis statement to correcting common writing errors. Individual writing support. Writing resources. Math and Statistics Help
Do you expect to need help with a math or statistics course? Get yourself on the right track early. The Mathematics and Statistics Learning Center (MSLC) provides free support to students in many math and statistics courses. In addition, they provide online resources, practice exams, workshops and exam reviews for most of the large enrollment mathematics courses. For more information visit MSLC.

Arts and Sciences Student Council
Looking for a student organization? The Arts and Sciences Student Council (ASCSC) is open to all undergraduate students offering an opportunity to take part in academic, social and service activities. Meetings are held most Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m.. All arts and sciences majors are welcome! The first meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21 in the Student Alumni Council Room, Ohio Union . If you can't make it, come to a future meeting. Meetings locations listed here.
Education Abroad Program Highlight -
Islamic Banking and Finance
Through a spring semester course (ECON 4797.02), students will come to understand the relation between culture/religion and the economy and how culture and religion have shaped financial institutions. Students will compare Islamic finance to conventional finance in connection with the impact of cultural and religious values. Over spring break students will travel to Malaysia to explore how Islamic finance works in practice and visit historical and cultural sites. Contact: Jeannie Simmons at [email protected] . Department of Molecular Genetics Open House
Join faculty and current majors from the Department of Molecular Genetics to learn about research, funding opportunities, and the wide array of career opportunities open to molecular genetics majors. View demonstrations on the various molecular genetics model organisms and specialized instrumentation used in their research. Talk with undergraduates who are doing research in their labs. Enjoy snacks while you learn how molecular genetics can prepare you for graduate programs, medical school, or a career in public health, genetic counseling, research or many other career paths. All are welcome regardless of declared major!

School of Music Ensembles - Open To All Students
There may be construction on College Rd., but the School of Music isn't skipping a beat. We have an exciting season ahead, including a Latin-American Musical Celebration, numerous performances throughout the city and a fully-staged production of Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods in March. Ensembles are open to all students. Bands, choirs, orchestras, jazz — we have something for everyone. Auditions are held during the first week of school. Sign-up for a time and access audition excerpts here. Some groups have open enrollment with no audition required.
Theatre Auditions - Open To All Students
The Department of Theatre welcomes and encourages diverse casting opportunities. All Ohio State students in good academic standing are welcome to audition. You do not need to be a theatre major or minor to participate. Autumn semester productions include: Romeo and Juliet , Bonnets: (How Ladies of Good Breeding Are Induced to Murder) , A Midsummer Night's Dream , Sahar Speaks: Voices of Women in Afghanistan , InterACT, and the Lab Series. Get Involved Through Rec Sports
The Office of Student Life's Department of Recreational Sports provides activities at locations across campus. Whether you like working out alone or playing games with a team, there is something for everyone including: group fitness classes, personal training, intramural sports including individual and team sports, wilderness-based experiences, and sports clubs. Stay Safe Living Off Campus
Any student living in the University District can request a free home walk-through. Student Life and Columbus Division of Fire representatives will assess the property's safety, security, and sustainability, install free safety devices, and provide a personalized report after the walk-through. The Office of Student Life's Student Wellness Center provides a variety of services to support holistic wellness and the nine dimensions of wellness. Services include:

Flicks for Free
Flicks for Free presents free movies! They are presented by the Ohio Union Activities Board (OUAB) and brought to you by your student activity fee. They are open to Ohio State Columbus students with a valid BuckID. All movies are held at the Ohio Union U.S. Bank Conference Theater in the Ohio Union with the exception of Wednesday, August 21. Buckeye Kick-Off
Experience the year's most dynamic OSU spirit event at Buckeye Kick-Off! Enjoy free food and interactive games during the fan fest and tailgate which begins at 4 p.m. on the south plaza outside the Ohio Stadium south stands. Gates to the Ohio Stadium open at 5 p.m. for open football practice, then 6:15 p.m. kicks off the multimedia program, featuring TBDBITL, OSU celebrities, a Block O card stunt, and more! Stay until the end to come onto the field and pose for a historic group photo! Make sure to wear scarlet! More Welcome Week info.
